Air Force Offensive Preview

Utah State and Air Force will try to take the upper hand in the Mountain West Conference.



The starters at WR are 5-9 175 junior Garrett Brown (Scout NR) and 6-3 220 sophomore Jalen Robinette (Scout NR). Brown played in all 12 games as a sophomore in 2013 leading the team with 19 receptions for 237 yards which was good enough for second on the team. He also carried the ball 8 times for 34 yards. In just 5 games in 2014 Brown has already matched his 2013 totals with a team high 19 grabs and he has also surpassed his 2013 yardage totals with 254, good enough for second on the team. Brown also has 5 receiving TDs to boot. Brown is also the Falcons fourth leading rusher in 2014 having carried the ball 22 times for 152 yards and 1 TD. Robinette played in all 12 games as a true freshman in 2013 and finished with 16 grabs, which was second on the team, and a team leading 291 yards and 3 TDs. His first career catch was a 37 yard TD against the Aggies last season. Much like Brown, Robinette is having a standout season in 2014 already having pulled in a career high 17 receptions which is second on the team and also a team leading 274 yards. Robinette has also completed 1 pass for 54 yards and a TD this season.

5-11 170 junior Alex Ludowig (Scout NR) has secured the backup role behind Robinette. In 2013 Ludowig started 7 games and played in 11 snaring 6 passes for 86 yards and 1 TD. Ludowig has appeared in all 5 games thus far in 2014 and has recorded 3 receptions for 41 yards and tied his career high with 1 TD. Converted RB 5-10 195 senior Jon Lee (Scout NR) is getting his first crack at WR in 2014. Lee has been a mainstay in the Falcons backfield for the past three seasons as he has amassed 1,096 yards on 165 carries and 9 TDs over his career. In 2014 Lee has appeared in all 5 games but he only has 2 carries for 24 yards to show for it.


6-4 225 junior Garrett Griffin (Scout NR) is the Falcons starter at TE. Griffin played in all 12 games as a sophomore in 2013 finishing fourth on the team in receiving with 13 catches for 163 yards and 1 TD. Griffin has played in all 5 games in 2014 and is currently third on the team in both receptions and receiving yards with 6 grabs for 90 yards and a career high tying 1 TD. The backup to Griffin is 6-6 240 senior Marcus Hendricks (Scout NR). Hendricks is getting his first opportunity to break into the two deep depth chart has he has been battling back from an injury for most of the season. Hendricks has started in 13 of the Falcons last 25 games spanning back two seasons where Hendricks has snared 13 passes for 191 yards and 2 TDs. Hendricks has yet to record any stats in 2014.



Originally recruited as a gaurd 6-3 270 junior Matt Rochell (Scout 2*) started every game in 2013 as a sophomore. Rochell has once again returned to the starting lineup in 2014 starting all five of the Falcons games up to this point. 6-4 255 sophomore Patrick Halloran (Scout NR) is the backup at LT. Halloran spent all of 2013 participating on the Falcons JV squad as a true freshman. Halloran has seen action in only 1 game in 2014 during the season opening win versus Nicholls State.


Andrew Ruechel (Scout NR) a 6-1 260 junior begins the season as the starter at RT. Ruechel saw action in 11 games in 2013 as a sophomore while spending his true freshman season on the JV sqaud. Ruechel has started all 5 of the Falcons games in 2014. 6-4 250 junior Luke Brantley (Scout NR) has not seen any on-field action since he played on the JV squad in 2012 as a freshman. Thus far in 2014 Brantley has only seen action in one game during the season opening win against Nicholls State.


Starting in place of injured 6-3 240 junior Sevrin Remmo (Scout NR) is Colin Sandor (Scout 2*). Originally recruited as a center, Sandor did not see any action in 2013. Sandor has however already started 1 game in 2014, while also seeing action in 3 other games this season. The backup who may also see some time Saturday night is 6-3 285 senior Jimmy Manuel (Scout NR). Manuel did not see any action during his career until the 2013 season as a junior where he played in just two games. Manuel has already doubled his career appearance numbers in 2014 as he as played in 4 of the Falcons first 5 games of the season.


One of only two senior starters for the Falcons is 6-0 282 Patrick Noyes (Scout NR). Noyes did not see any action until his junior season in 2013 where he appeared in just 5 games. Noyes has already equaled that mark by starting all 5 games that the Falcons have played during the 2014 season. The backup at LG is 6-1 275 sophomore Colin Sandor. Sandor did not see any action in 2013. Sandor has however already started 1 game in 2014 at RG, while also seeing action in 3 other games this season, and is currently listed as the starter at right guard.


The second and final senior starter on the Falcons offensive line is Michael Husar (Scout NR). The 6-0 278 is a returning starter for the Falcons having started in all 12 games in 2013. Husar missed the entire 2012 season with a knee injury and is now playing in 2014 having been granted a rare 6th season of eligibility. Husar has started all five of the Falcons games in 2014. The backup to Husar has some experience as well. 6-0 250 senior David Jones (Scout NR) has played in 10 total games between the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Jones has seen action in 2 games in 2014 versus Nicholls State and Georgia State.


After missing the first two games of the season 5-9 227 sophomore D.J. Johnson (Scout NR) has taken over the starting FB spot. As true freshman in 2013 Johnson played in 10 games finishing with 19 carries for 72 yards and 1 TD. In the three games that Johnson has played in so far in 2014 he has recorded 10 carries for 35 yards. 6-0 220 senior Broam Hart (Scout NR) is listed as the backup to Johnson although he has started in 2 of the 5 games that he has played in. Hart ended the 2013 season second on the team in rushing yardage with 469 yards on 113 carries and 6 TDs. In 2014 Hart is currently fifth on the team in rushing yardage with 110 yards on 29 carries and 1 TD.


Jacobi Owens (Scout NR) a 5-11 190 sophomore is the starting tailback for the Falcons. Owens did not see any game action during the 2013 season as a true freshman. However, Owens has made the most of his opportunity as a starter in 2014. Owens has already carried the ball 113 times for 617 yards and 4 TDs on the season. The backup to Owens is 5-10 180 junior Devin Rushing (Scout NR). In 2013 during his first collegiate action as a sophomore Rushing appeared in all 12 games rushing for 171 yards on 41 carries and 1 TD. In 2014 Rushing is currently third on the team in both attempts with 27 and rushing yardage with 169 yards. Rushing has also scored 2 touchdowns for the season.


Senior Cale Pearson (Scout NR) returns after having missed his entire 2013 junior season with a knee injury. Pearson opened the 2013 season as the starting QB before he went down with the injury in the second quarter of the opening game of the season. Pearson did play in portions of 10 games as a sophomore in 2012 completing 12 of 29 passes for 128 yards and throwing 4 interceptions, as well as rushing for 49 yards and 2 TDs on 25 carries. Pearson is off and running to a strong start leading the Falcons to 4 wins in 5 games, all while throwing for 629 yards and 6 TDs on 48 completions in 80 attempts. Pearson has been just as effective on the ground carrying the ball 61 times for 261 yards and 3 more TDs. Pearson's carries and yardage are both good for second on the team. The backup is last seasons part time starter Nate Romine (Scout 2*). Romine a 5-11 198 sophomore, played in 9 games starting five in 2013 as a true freshman after fellow freshman QB Jaleel Awini (Scout 2*) was kicked off the team. Romine played admirably, while being overmatched in many of the games the Falcons played with Romine under center. In 2013 Romine tallied 44 completions on 81 attempts for 603 yards and 5 TDs with 1 interception, while also rushing for 205 yards and 3 TDs on 75 carries. With Pearson back and appearing stronger than ever Romine has only appeared in the opening day win versus Nicholls State and recorded 23 rushing yards on his only carry of the season.


Starting WR 6-3 220 sophomore Jalen Robinette is getting his first career shot at PR. Thus far in 2014 Robinette has only managed to field 3 punts, which he has returned for a total of 6 yards for a 2.0 yard per return average. The backup to Robinette is the other starter at WR 5-9 175 Garrett Brown, although Brown has not returned a punt for the Falcons in 2014.


Kick return duties have fallen primarily on the shoulders of 5-10 195 senior backup RB/WR Jon Lee. In 2014 Lee has returned 6 kicks for 124 yards. That is good for a 20.7 yard per return average. Backup RB Devin Rushing is listed as the other starter at kick return. Rushing has tallied 2 returns for 37 yards, which is good for a 18.5 yard per return average. One other player has taken a crack at returning kicks for the Falcons in 2014. Starting WR Jalen Robinette who has returned 2 kicks for 31 yards which is good for a 15.5 yard per return average.
