Spring Practice gets pads

The first day with pads started slow but finished strong.

It took a few drills and encouragement from coaches for players to really start hitting. Today was the first day that players put on pads and started to hit. The practice ended with a couple huge hits by the defense.

A couple players impresses me. I think Kelvin Lee is finding his own as a Safety and also Marwin Evans looked like he has a couple years under his belt. Young guys Wade and Rocquemore might look look more impressive at times but Evans, Centers and Lee you can tell know what they are doing. Utah State has had such smart Safeties that were the leaders of the Defense. This year someone will need to step up or a guy like Devin Centers will need to step into that role instead of just bringing energy and play making.

There are obviously guys out but strangely LB was the position that I worried about. Baldomero and Harold are solid and experienced but they need someone to replace Zach Vigil. I think Nick Vigil stays in the middle and maybe even try Huerta at Inside Linebacker instead of outside. Maybe even bring in a late signee or transfer also. I was impressed with Christiansen but he still has weight to gain.

WR may be lower in numbers than years past but if Swindall can come back like himself they will be one of the best groups in recent memory for the Aggies. Andrew Rodriguez and Zach Van Leewan are guys that could get some important playing time and catches this year in addition to what Sharp, Natson and Robinson can bring to the table.

With cornerback Jalen Davis limited the corners are dominated by second yr JUCO guys Hayes, Hines and Floyd. Another guy that impressed playing multiple positions is Marquan Ellison he is another guy that now after a couple years looks like the more experienced physical guys in the Secondary.

I've mentioned it a few times but the TE position is going to be deep and more heavily used this year. With Horne, Houston, Copier a couple others it gives the coaches options.

Chuckie and Garretson both look about the same as in Fall camp. Some people may take that as a bad thing but bottom line is they need to stay healthy and make it through the year without a setback.
