Utah State Junior Day

Utah State had a huge day on Saturday. Starting with junior day it was an important chance to show recruits what Utah State is all about.

Utah State held it's annual Junior Day Saturday. It was a perfect day with the Spring game, new name of stadium announcement and great weather. It was the best turnout ever and really packed the football offices and was great to showcase the program to recruits, coaches and parents. There were quite a few first time visitors and everyone that I talked to were really impressed with the program. There were recruits with offers already, guys that will get offers and football players that will never get a single offer to play football. There was a good mix of guys.

Tangaloa Kaufusi made it to the Spring game but not all of Junior day. In my opinion has the highest ceiling of any recruit in Utah. Really good kid and is really close to Joe Tukuafu who was signed last year at Utah State. Joe was actually with Loa because he is home on medical leave from his mission in Argentina. He is heading back out on his mission and will be back in time for the 2016 season. He could have a good influence on a few East guys that the Aggies are recruiting.

Braxton Gunther has visited Utah State and met with coaches many times so it was nothing new for him. He is one of those guys that fits the program like a glove in my opinion.

Noah Kramer is a guy that has seen his recruiting pick up recently. He plays defensive tackle at Northridge and could gain even more offers after camps etc.

Johnny Maea was at USU for the first time and was officially offered by Utah State in person. He is a guy that has been on the Aggie's radar for a while though. He told me he really enjoyed his visit and he is one of those guys from East High School that could look at the other guys that have gone through that program and made the trip up North. The Aggies always need talented Offensive Lineman especially ones from instate.

Hartman Rector is the only current 2016 commit. He is a good starting point for an always important valley and instate signing class. Hartman could end up playing a different position but at WR last year showed promise.

Quint Scoufos needs some love if for no other reason because he came from Oklahoma. He plays QB in HS but could move to TE or LB or even offensive or defensive line. Right now he is 6'4 240 and has some athleticism if you watch his QB tape. Quint has some ties to the Aggies. Matt and Luke Wells played for his Grandpa at Sallisaw HS in Oklahoma.

Bryce Mortenson is another instate and Cache Valley recruit that other programs are trying to convince to leave. Bryce is a great Basketball player and at 6'6 has the size and potential to be a solid TE.

Darius McFarland is another recruit in the Aggies back yard that others are trying to land. He plays DE and TE in high school and I would consider kind of a ATH signee but probably DE.

Chaz Ah You is one of the top sophomores in the state. Last year played QB and really showed his athleticism but is recruited as a Safety.

Levani Damuni is a 2017 commit.

Tayler Katoa is another 2017 early offer. It was his first visit and tour of the Utah State facilities.

Recruits to keep an eye on and many times end up better than the "higher rated" guys.

Simian Matagi plays linebacker at Bingham High School. Bingham is another school that there has been and should continue to be a number of recruits every year. I can confidently say Simian's stock will continue to rise. Right now he is long and lean but is an Outside Backer with a lot of potential.

Noah Caron is a guy that moved from Las Vegas recently. He had never been to Logan either but loved it. He was surprised and impressed with the facilities and environment at USU. Could end up as a top 10 Defensive lineman in the state but also hasn't played a snap yet at Westlake HS or here in Utah. He tweeted a lot about BYU lately but I have a feeling that could change in the future.
