Mountain West Elite Wrap up

Mountain West Elite camp has grown and improved to where it is essentially the All Poly camp minus the college coaches and out of state guys. There was great talent there this year.

The Mountain West Elite camp came to an end last weekend. Here is a look at the MVP's and "All Camp teams". I was extremely impressed with the talent of players and the quality of coaches. I through out there recently that there are at least 20 D1 prospects and that is just 2017 and 2016 recruits. There were a lot of kids from certain schools and no doubt those schools will benefit this season. Particularly Bingham, Brighton, Sky View and Woods Cross look loaded this year.

The thing that sticks out to me is the improvement in the "Skill" Position players. I don't think it has been a secret that Utah is stacked with Linebackers, Tight Ends, Olineman and Dlineman. The difference is the quality of the WR's, RB, QB's and Defensive Backs. I mentioned it before but the guys that impressed me the most were guys like Julian Blackmon, Sione Finau and Ty Jones (who was playing WR at Provo last year as a Sophomore).

That being said there were a bunch out of the Dline and Linebacker group that will land offers this year.

Varsity High School Selections

Defensive Line

Colton Durrant Sky View MVP

Well deserved MVP award. He was virtually unblockable in this camp. Dline was fun to watch because there are guys like Colton that is just so experienced and strong and other guys that are just loaded with potential.

Noah Caron Westlake 1st Team

Noah moved from Las Vegas and this was a good opportunity for him to be seen and also improve. He did impress and earning 1st team in a loaded group is a great accomplishment.

Mason Tye Sky View 1st Team

One of the surprise performers at the camp. Mason plays all over the field for the Bobcats, even catching passes and running the ball. He projects as a NG at the next level and could be one of the steals in the state.

Steve Havili Stansbury 1st Team

Steve is the next in the line from the Havili family. He has a lot of potential as well.Another 2017 guy to watch.

Lorenzo Fauatea Hunter 2nd Team

Another guy that burst on to the scene at this camp. He missed the first weekend of the camp and also the last day so it is impressive for him to get 2nd team. Lorenzo was an important piece of the Hunter Oline this year but he said he loves Dline will play both ways this year. I think he projects as an olineman at the next level but as a 2017 recruit with a long lean frame he is an Athlete on either line.

Apu Ika East 2nd Team

JT Siri Lone Peak 2nd Team

Tavite Tonga Granger 3rd Team

Jake Pitcher Sky View 3rd Team

Lyric Bartley Taylorsville Honorable Mention

Some people are probably surprised that he was Honorable mention but this has more to do with missing a couple practices and this group being so loaded. I was impressed with his toughness and showed some nasty during 7 on 7 which is always good.

Brig Adams Sky View Honorable Mention

Setima Mailieitulia Alta Honorable Mention

Offensive Line

Walker Holgreen Woods Cross MVP

Most of the top Oline performers are 2017 guys so the future looks bright. Holgreen is a Center that shows good promise.

Hayden Erickson Lehi 1st Team

Ethan Schofield Lone Peak 1st Team

Cole Watts Pleasant Grove 1st Team

Emosi Damuni Mountain Crest 2nd Team

Dawson Durrant Sky View 2nd Team

Tavian Myers Bingham 2nd Team

Linebackers

Jackson Kaufusi Brighton MVP

Jackson's recruitment has taken off with Pac12 and MWC teams offering him. The biggest thing that I noticed is he has put on a lot of weight and is much stronger than he was last season. Last year at these camps he was a skinny kid, now he is a legit LB.

Simian Matagi Bingham 1st Team

Simian is proving he is not just a product of the Bingham Defense. He proved he can do it on his own. He is a legit 6'3 and needs to put on more bulk but he is a good fit at OLB. Just landed an offer from Utah State.

Sione Heimuli-Lund Brighton 1st Team

Hard to believe Sione as a 2017 recruit has a couple more years at Brighton. Sione is a perfect fit at middle linebacker but also plays RB. He will have his choice of most PAC12 teams as well as the instate schools.

Levani Damuni Mountain Crest 1st Team

Levani is an athlete that could end up playing multiple positions in college. He worked with the Linebackers at this camp and it was good to see him move in space. For Mountain Crest he will have to play both ways it looks like. Battle between Utah State and BYU for this 2017 recruit.

Matt Everton Herriman 2nd Team

Simeon Page Riverton 2nd Team

Fua Pututau Cottonwood 2nd Team

Fua lined up as a LB but may end up adding to the incredible D-Line group. He has shown the ability to make plays wherever he lines up so we will see. It will be interesting to see where he ends up as well.

Colton Carter Lehi 3rd Team

Sam Elisaia Bingham 3rd Team

Jordan Lolohea West 3rd Team

2017 Recruit that is big for a LB and at the next level should be a Dlineman. He is already a beast though, he will be one to watch.

Safeties

Braxton Gunther Woods Cross MVP

Another example of a solid, polished football player. He is a guy you want on you team and just gets the job done.

Keith Saylin Woods Cross 1st Team

Josh Bailey American Fork 1st Team

Hunter Burt Viewmont 2nd Team

Kade Christiansen Mountain Crest 2nd Team

William Overstreet Pleasant Grove 3rd Team

Kaimon Roberts Bingham 3rd Team

Jeremiah Denos Summit Academy Honorable Mention

Ethan Anderton Woods Cross Honorable Mention

Corners

Luke Robinson Woods Cross MVP

Luke is a solid corner for WX. The Corner group seemed to improve with every rep.

Jacob McAnn Bountiful 1st Team

Saiosi Niumeitolu Alta 1st Team

Nate Phillips Sky View 2nd Team

Jake Udy Sky View 2nd Team

Hunter Baum Provo 3rd Team

Tight Ends

Caleb Ingraham Fremont MVP

Showed good athletecism and speed. Could translate to D1 prospect even if not a TE.

Jaren Keolliker Davis 1st Team

Tyler Batty Payson 2nd Team

RB’s

Sione Finau Kearns MVP

May be the MVP of the camp overall. He was really fun to watch. At first I thought he was blowing by maybe sub par competition but he was beating the best guys too. Not tall but has speed and good moves. Also decided to go win a state track 110 hurdle championship in the middle of the camp as well.

Kaden Hayward Juan Diego 1st Team

Tyler Kap Lone Peak 1st Team

Jaedon Landon Lone Peak 1st Team

Jace Feller Woods Cross 2nd Team

Jackson McChesney Lone Peak 2nd Team

Tu’umoto’oa Afu Alta 2nd Team

WR’s

Simi Fehoko Brighton MVP

One of the best WR's at the high school level that I have seen. He is getting offers from everyone and it is for good reason. If nothing else I am impressed he came to this camp between other camps and visits. Some guys get a big head when they get some offers.

Julian Blackmon Layton 1st Team

1st wide receiver and could have been named as a CB as well. Showed the ability to go up and get a ball in traffic and should have a good year.

Malik Overstreet Pleasant Grove 1st Team

Bryce Mortensen Sky View 1st Team

Taniela Pututau Cottonwood 2nd Team

Comes from a football family with his brother Fua a big time recruit this year and another brother Howard as well. Will be the 3rd brother to be recruited he has longer frame and more athleticism than his brothers it looks like. Plays WR now but that could change no doubt. Will be a big time 2017 ATH recruit I predict.

Griffin Hill Davis 2nd Team

Ty Jones Provo 2nd Team

Ty plays at Provo but burst on to the scene at Pylon 7on7 tourney in Vegas this year. He impressed here as well. Good size and speed.

Elvis Vakapuna Bingham 3rd Team

Dax Milne Bingham 3rd Team

Braden Gapinski Davis 3rd Team

Steve Bangerter Pine View Honorable Mention

Breygan Holbrook Sky View Honorable Mention

Jeremy Fehoko Brighton Honorable Mention

QB’s

Garrison Beach Sky View MVP

Some people want to look at height or potential and that's fine. Garrison is the best QB in the state though. He makes reads, audibles, checks and throws that no other QB in the state can. He will raise his stock this year with a good year. He is also smart and a football junkie as well. I hear he may even break out his Punting and long snapping skills as well.

Keaton Torre Bingham 1st Team

Keaton has been highly recruited for years. He recently moved from Oklahoma and decommitted from Louisville. He has a big arm and good size so he no doubt has a lot to offer.

Justin Miller Summit Academy 1st Team

Justin looks impressive he is another guy that moved here in the middle of his HS career. Physically he has all the tools at 6'3.5. He had some good throws that I saw and is an under the radar guy to watch.

Tayler Katoa Layton 1st Team

Tayler is turning to a great Quarterback and not just an Athlete. 2017 Recruit has instate and Oregon St offers.

Caleb Taylor Fremont 2nd Team

2017 QB has shown well in camps and this year at Fremont should continue to garner interest.

Dakota Hansen Lone Peak 2nd Team

Braxton Kerr Alta 2nd Team

Cammon Cooper Lehi 3rd Team

Calvin Miles Lehi 3rd Team

Cole Huish Viewmont 3rd Team

AJ Wiseman Olympus 3rd Team

Ryker Osborne Juab 3rd Team

Tyler Smith Olympus Honorable Mention

Isaac Hamilton Pleasant Grove Honorable Mention

Will Dana Alta Honorable Mention

Masan Fakahua Cedar City Honorable Mention
