SLC Satellite camps are a success for USU

The Aggies held their 2 camps in the Salt Lake Valley today. They had a great turnout and very good talent as well.

The morning kicked off at Juan Diego with rain and wind. Soon it warmed up and the second session was really warm and sunny. The Aggies may have found a Diamond in the rough like Dalton Baker or maybe they realized they don't want want a certain guy. Either way it is a great way to evaluate players and this staff puts a premium on guys coming to camps. Last year the best examples are Cade Smith and Dalton Baker they came to camp with no offer and proved themselves. A lot of the top guys at the day camp got invites to show even more next week with pads on. Stay tuned it could uncover another Diamond.

The turnout was good at both sessions with more total players and also better talent than last year as well.

Jonathan Letter and Breydon Boyd came all the way from Katy HS is Texas near Houston. Letter is a Long Snapper and Breydon Boyd is a 2017 6'4 210 pound Linebacker. Katy is one of the top programs in the state of Texas and is a place that the Aggies would love to get guys to come to Utah State on a regular basis. Breydon Boyd showed me some physicallity and toughness from what I could tell.

Lorenzo Fauatea is from Hunter HS and I have watched him a few times recently. He is a 2017 guy that has the potential to be one of the top Lineman in a loaded 2017 recruiting class in the state of Utah. He played mostly Oline last year and will probably play both ways for Hunter this year. I think he has a little bit better potential as an offensive lineman. But what do I know?

Cooper Smith may have been the standout of the camp (in my opinion). He is almost 6'4 and can move like a safety. At the next level he may end up a OLB. He has plans to visit Arizona State and other PAC12 schools so it will be interesting to see what happens this summer. He said he has been playing Baseball and felt a little rusty at the camp.

Sione Finau is another guy with multiple offers. He really likes the Aggies and gushed about how much he loves the coaches and wants a chance to play in Logan. His brother Amone was a guy that was very very close to signing with Utah State before his mission. He ended up sataying committed to Utah but would also not be the first guy to change his mind on his mission. Sione said he expects to grow taller like his brother who is 6'4 right now. Sione is a "Baller" and running through drills is not his best way to showcase his shiftiness and ability.

The Afternoon session at Judge

Chaz AhYou is a 2017 Safety that already has an offer from Utah State. He was at the camp with some of his teammates from Westlake. He is a guy that will have his choice of almost any school in the Nation to play at.

Playing on his home turf Xavier Price made some really good plays. I remember 2 that he was matched up with Chaz that he burned him deep. He is a guy that has good size and speed for his position.

Braxton Gunther from Woods Cross has been on Utah State's radar for a long time. He seemed pretty happy with his 40 time and his overall performance. The safety is a little bit like Dallin Leavitt if you have never watched him play.

A few of the best QB's in the state were at this camp. Keaton Torre and Garrison Beach will battle for the top QB in the state this year and are both in the top 5 in the state in my opinion. Garrison is shorter and Keaton has a big arm but I was really impressed with Garrison's accuracy. I have really liked Beach since I watched the Sky View Vs Roy game last year and he just had his way with a really good defense. Not a lot of HS QB's change the play or understand if they put their TE in motion that will draw the safety over and open things up for his WR. He is a really sharp polished QB that I guess Colleges are passing on because of his height.

Julian Blackmon is another athlete that could end up on either side of the ball but really showed he is an athlete. He did well in the drills and made some good plays on the ball.

I hate to lump all the Sky View guys in together so I will lump a bunch of Dlineman in together! Max Christensen is coming off injury. Colton Durrant looked good in drills but maybe coaches are unsure how high his ceiling is? Noah Kramer is a guy with offers and looked like he can move pretty well for a big guy. The DT is going into his SR season at Northridge and it will be interesting to see how much interest he gets. Noah Caron is another DT from Westlake that after moving to Utah is proving what he can do to coaches here.

Devin O'Hara is a big JUCO QB from College of Dupage in Illinois. He was in town to visit University of Utah and stopped by Judge to show what he's got. He is a big kid and in his highlight he shows that he can run the ball really well. Originally signed with Western Illinois out of HS.
