Returning for the 2015 season is 2014 part time starter Sophomore LaJuan Hunt. Hunt truly impressed in 2014 as a true Freshman when he toted the rock 111 times for 540 yards and 1 TD, while also catching 10 passes for 99 yards and 1 TD. Hunt started in 4 of the 14 games he played in 2014. Hunt left Spring Ball as the number one Running Back coming into fall camp this August.
Four players are competing for the backup carries once fall camp begins and the Aggies embark on their 2015 campaign. Redshirt Sophomore Tonney Lindsey had an impressive Spring Ball and worked his way up the depth chart to share first team carries with Hunt. Lindsey is a slasher that really excels at catching the ball out of the backfield. The coaching staff felt lucky that they were able to land Lindsey as he was slated to be the number one Running Back for his former JuCo team and he likely would have landed some very prestigious offers had he not signed early with Utah State. Junior Devante Mays, who joined the Aggies in December after earning Southwest Junior College Football Conference Honorable Mention honors in 2014, is a tough and physical runner, who has good lateral quickness and the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Mays had a strong spring, finishing neck and neck with Lindsey for carries in the battle as the number 2 option for carries out of the backfield.
Junior Kennedy Williams will likely be added back to the rotation now that Rashad Hall has left the team. Williams had 8 carries for 81 yards, and caught 4 passes for 34 yards, and even recorded 1 tackle, while seeing action in all 14 games in 2014. Williams, who is described as a smart football player having a good change of direction while also displaying great hands, will likely also see some action playing as a slot receiver this fall.
Redshirt Freshman Justen Hervey is a youngster with a ton of speed. Coming out of high school Hervey was rated as the 18th fastest 100 meter runner in the country with a time of 10.80, making him a legitmate threat to take it to the house everytime he touches the ball. Hervey was making positive strides within the offense during Spring Ball until he was sidelined mid-way through with shoulder injury that caused him to miss the remainder of the early year session. Hervery will be looking to make a move up the depth chart once fall camp begins. Walk on Aarron Franklin will join the team in August. Franklin didn't have an overwhelming high school career at West Covina High in California but he is a versatile player that made plays as a running back, a receiver, a defensive back, and as a kick returner. The addition of Franklin will add depth to the position.
