Mountain West Elite got started in April

A Majority of the best prospects in Utah attend Mountain West Elite.

I was able to attend the Mountain West elite camp last weekend. I will get to the impressive list of prospects below but I was impressed overall by the eye test and the number of legit players in the state. This camp is getting huge and is almost at capacity it seems. Held at Cottonwood I can even tell a difference from the last couple years I have been following it.

Part of that is due to the hard work of Riley Jensen and Co. The state of Utah does continue to improve in the number and quality of recruits.

I can literally count on one hand the guys that I would like to have seen but did not attend MWE.

What I was looking for specifically was new guys that were not on my radar and I found a couple.

The first is the Payson High product that I joke is the next Dalton Baker.  2017 DE Tyler Batty looked impressive in a loaded D-line group that includes some monsters like Alden Tofa and Lorenzo Fauatea. He has a solid 6'5 frame and if he works as hard as Dalton, he could be a guy to watch.

At WR a 2018 kid is Kade Moore. He is lucky to catch balls from fellow 2018 standout Cammon Cooper but he has turned some heads already at the camp. Lehi is really really loaded next year. I can't imagine them not being one of the better teams next year. They will have a lot of weapons on offense.

A couple of the Safeties caught my eye:

Noah Vaea and Jakobi Matagi

Noah Vaea is not an unknown by any means. He was part of Herriman's state championship team and had 10 interceptions or whatever last year.

I was expecting to see some reason why he doesn't have more offers. I thought, he must be too small, No. Maybe slow? No.

I left more confused but impressed with him overall. He is has good size and has already proven to be a ball hawk.

Kobi Matagi is Simian's brother who signed at Utah State from Bingham. Jakobi is a 2018 kid that has an impressive body at this age. He will play safety but has the potential to end up at LB in college or even later in HS. I think he will continue to get better and has a high ceiling especially since he has limited varsity experience.

No offer from Utah State for Cammon yet but in my opinion is only a matter of time. He looked like the best quarterback that I watched while there.

I didn't have much time to spend with the QB's but I know he has the tools from what I can tell. Will Dana and Dakota Hansen are also intriguing.

A number of guys from MWE went up to Utah State for an unofficial visit as well.

Overall this camp is loaded with talent and I will be back. Keep your eye out for more info coming soon.
