Aggie Hoops New Faces: Daron Henson

Aggie Hoops New Faces: Daron Henson

Daron Henson is another true freshman on this season's roster. A pure shooter from Pasadena, California, Henson provides a major offensive threat for the Aggies to utilize. Some have hinted that he may redshirt this season. With offensive threats Moore and Rector both graduating after this season, having four years of Henson to follow is definitely tempting. A hand injury has hampered his performance early this year and may be another reason to look at redshirting. Henson averaged 17.1 ppg and 6.4 rpg his senior year of high school.

·         Tell me about your recruitment and journey to Utah State.

Utah State started recruiting me the summer going into my senior year. Coach Wilson reached out to me and so did Duryea and some of the other guys. They ended up offering me around the start of my senior year. I took a visit here and committed shortly after that. There were some other schools involved like Nevada and some others but USU felt right to me.

·         What is a strength in your game that you feel you will bring to this team?

It has to be my shooting. That’s my biggest strength. I like to spread the floor and be able to pick and pop.

·         Who has surprised you in practice so far?

Sam Merrill for sure. He came off a mission without playing serious basketball for two years. He came in and has put in some work since he’s been here. He lost some weight and has just caught on so fast. I didn’t really expect it from him. Not doubting his game or anything, he just really opened my eyes and he’s a really good player.

·         Who is the funniest on the team?

It has to be Ngor and Shane. Those are the two funny guys on the team.

·         Where is your favorite place to eat in Logan?

I’m going to Café Rio every chance I get. I get the sweet pork burrito all the time.

·         What’s been the best part of USU so far?

It’s a small town and I love that everyone is pretty much behind the university. Everyone comes out to support football and everyone comes to basketball too. I was surprised how much people have been coming out to even like soccer and volleyball. I love that. I like that it’s a nice place with nice people. I wish it wasn’t cold. I’m from California so I don’t like the cold.

·         What is your pregame ritual?

I listen to whatever is the newest from my favorite rappers. It might be Drake. It might be Meek Mill. It might be RJ. Something like that. I always have headphones on before the game.
