Week 8 MWC Power Rankings

Things stay the same as all the favorites are victorious...

1. Utah (7-0) (4-0)
A complete and utter domination against a Colorado State team that looked to have turned the corner in past weeks. The offense really got it rolling again with 59 points while the defense was unreal in the second half. The Air Force game doesn't look like the challenge it might have been a few weeks ago setting up the undefeated showdown with TCU in two weeks.
2. TCU (8-0) (4-0)
We can probably call them 1A after their annihilation of Air Force. That win was as impressive as any win in the country this past weekend. Ed Wesley is making a great case as the best running back in the conference. One more beatdown of UNLV on Saturday until the Utah game.
3. San Diego State (5-2) (2-1)
Not the prettiest performance against New Mexico, but they did get the win. Ryan Lindley needs to be sharper than he was on Saturday. I'll chalk this one up to their poor performance win of the year. With TCU and Utah still to come, need to right the ship over the next two weeks.
4. Air Force (5-3) (3-2)
The loss of Jared Tew is proving to be huge as they couldn't do anything on offense against TCU. With Utah on Saturday, the Falcons are looking at a three game losing streak.
5. BYU (3-5) (2-2)
The defense did everything they could against Wyoming in holding them to -18 yards in the first half. The offense did everything they could to give it back. The running game looked good, but who would have thought that Jake Heaps would be this bad?
6. Wyoming (2-6) (0-4)
The Cowboys are the masters of the backwards play. After having 13 negative yard plays against Utah, they had 9 of them against BYU... in the first half. Yet, they still had a chance to win it at the end.
7. Colorado State (2-6) (0-2)
After seemingly turning the corner the past few weeks ran into a buzz-saw in Utah and were overwhelmed. Nothing went right from about mid-way through the second quarter on. New Mexico comes to town this week in a game that should make the folks in Fort Collins happy again.
8. UNLV (1-6) (1-3)
Had the week off to prepare for TCU next weekend. Any chance they catch the Frogs looking forward to next week against Utah and stay within 30 points? I doubt it.
9. New Mexico (0-7) (0-3)
Played their best game of the year in staying within 10 points of San Diego State. If they play the same way against Wyoming at home, will have a great chance to pick up their first win of the year. It won't save Mike Locksley's job though. I can't believe he hasn't been fired yet.
