5 Minutes With Jared Norris

The So Cal Linebacker talks about his committment to the Utes back in May..

How is your season going so far?

The season is going good. I've actually missed the last few games with Valley Fever, which is a fungus in the lungs, but I'm excited to get back out there and start playing again.

You committed to Utah back in May, why did you choose the Utes?

I went down there (to Salt Lake City) and they offered me. They made me feel right at home and treated me like family. It was a really good fit. I went back home and talked to my parents about it and we felt that nothing was going to be better than what we're getting at Utah so I decided to commit.

What other schools have offered you?

Cal, and New Mexico State. I was talking to Oregon State and Arizona, but don't hear from them much anymore.

You're from southern California. If UCLA or USC came with an offer would you consider it?

I did grow up watching those schools, but Utah is the only school for me right now so I'll be sticking with them.

Have you taken an unofficial visit yet?

I had an unofficial back in April and then went to their camp in June.

Will you be taking an official visit at some point?

Coach (John) Pease wants me to come out for an official in January at some point.

What position have the coaches talked to you about playing?

We're mainly talking about middle linebacker, but I'll play wherever. I'd rather get on the field and play than be stuck in one position and not play.

What about Utah's defense stands out to you right now?

I love their defense. They have an amazing D. Their lineman and linebackers are very good. Same thing with the secondary, and I'm excited to be a part of that.

You committed before Utah made the move to the Pac 10. Was that just icing on the cake?

It's a big thing for me moving to a bigger league where the competition will be better. My teammate Cody Kessler committed to USC so I'll get to play against him.

Who do you try to pattern your game after?

I really started watching Brian Cushing and how he plays. He's been very influential with how he plays.

What are you goals for the rest of the season?

We want to go undefeated and play in the state playoffs. We're ranked number eight in the state right now.
