No. 11 Boise State has accepted a bid to play against No. 19 Utah in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas. The rankings reflect the teams' final positions in the BCS Standings. The 11-1 Broncos will play the 10-2 Utes in the 19th edition of the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas on Dec. 22 at 5 p.m. PT in Sam Boyd Stadium. Tickets in the Utah section are on sale at UtahUtes.com.
"Boise State is one of the top teams in the country and the opportunity to play them in the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl will present a big challenge for our players and coaches," said Utah coach Kyle Whittingham. "Until a week ago, the Broncos were in the mix for the national championship, so this game will have a lot of national as well as regional interest. Not many bowls outside the BCS games will feature teams with the kind of success Boise State and Utah have experienced in recent years, which makes this an exciting matchup. We will have our work cut out for us, but I know our players and staff are looking forward to playing in a bowl game against such a quality opponent."
Utah puts the nation's longest active bowl win streak (nine games) on the line against the Broncos. The nine-straight wins ties Utah for the second-longest bowl win streak of all time with USC (nine straight from 1923-45). Florida State holds the record with 11 consecutive bowl wins (1985-96).
Utah is making its 10th and Boise State its 11th bowl appearance in the last 12 years. Utah is 9-0 during that time, while Boise State is 6-4. Both teams are 2-0 in BCS bowl games: Utah with wins over Pittsburgh in the 2005 Fiesta Bowl and Alabama in the 2009 Sugar Bowl, and Boise with wins over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl and TCU in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl.
Utah's current bowl win streak began in Las Vegas in 1999 with a win over Fresno State. Utah's next bowl game and bowl win was also in Las Vegas—against USC in 2001. Boise State, 4-2 all-time against the Utes, is making its first MAACO Las Vegas Bowl appearance.
