It Just Felt Right For White

JC Running Back John White Gives the Utes a Commitment At a Position of Need...

So Cal JC Running Back John White knew the moment he stepped on campus.

"I committed last Wednesday to Coach Sitake. Coach Whitt told me he was very excited. Utah gave me a great vibe. As soon as I got there, I know it was the place I wanted to go."

Despite giving the coaches a verbal commitment last week, he still honored his official visit with Mississippi and went down to Oxford this past weekend.

"Mississippi was cool. It was a new experience and quite a culture shock being from Los Angeles."

In the end though, the proximity of Utah to his hometown of Los Angeles and the draw of the Pac 12 won out.

"Utah going to the Pac 12 made a huge difference. It's much better competition and I can play at home in front of my family."

White is the second running back committed for the 2011 class along with Jarrell Oliver as the Utes search for a replacement for the departing Matt Asiata and Eddie Wide, along with the medical retirement of Sausan Shakerin.

"The coaches implied that I'd have a chance to come in and compete for a starting spot. I know that I'm going to have to work for it though."

Along with lining up in the backfield, White is also going to get a shot alongside Reggie Dunn to return kickoffs. He's also a big threat out of the backfield catching balls.

"I had over 500 yards receiving my freshman year (at L.A. Harbor JC). I also had 1491 yards rushing this year (as a sophomore) with an 8.1 yards per carry average."

White is hoping to enroll in January, but may not make it until the summer. When he does get to Utah, he's excited to begin a new chapter in his life.

"It's going to be a good, new experience. Utah is a good place to be and evolve as a person. I'm fully committed and will be signing this Wednesday (JUCO Signing Day)."
