The Utes were in shorts today instead of full pads.
There were a few players missing from practice, including Star Lotulelei and John White.
2011 commit Nate Fakahafua and former Ute QB Terrance Cain took in practice. Fakahafua spent his entire time at practice with the defense, mostly glued to Kalani Sitake's side. A foreshadowing of where he'll end up?
Mo Lee was moved over to safety and received a lot of personal instruction from Morgan Scalley.
Luke Matthews spent the whole day at receiver. Looks like he's moving back there.
Ryan Lacy spent practice on the sidelines with a boot on his foot.
A couple of player were wearing different uniform numbers than normal.
Practice started slowly with mostly position drills for the first hour or so. Very different from the past spring practices that have more 7 on 7 work mixed in.
The quarterbacks and receivers spent a lot of time working on timing, with Chow stressing when to throw on each route. Not a lot of progress was made. Summer workouts should help with this.
Tyler Shreve continues to prove that he should be the number 1 QB with Jordan Wynn out. He looks great running the two minute offense and was head and shoulders ahead of Robles with his accuracy today.
Harvey Langi received most of the carries on the day with Thretton Palamo and Lucky Radley mixed in. Radley had a few great runs of 20+ yards with some great cutbacks, including a 50 yarder down the sidelines where he put a solid stiff arm on Quade Chappuis that resulted in Chappius pushing him far out of bounce, before the two players started jawing at eachother and getting face to face before being separated. Langi had one run up the middle for 25 yards that was very impressive. He finds the smallest creases and gets through them so well for a freshman.
Reggie Dunn had a huge day and was by far the best receiver today. He was making catches all over the place. Might have been the most impressive day by a receiver so far in camp. Had a 40 yard reverse for a touchdown where he received a great downfield block from Devonte Christopher and caught a couple of touchdown passes. Dexter Ransom also had a solid day.
The offensive line struggled with pass protection again early, but got better as the day went on. John Cullen lit up Wykie Freeman on a blitz attempt and Percy Taumoelau laid out Michael Walker on a block that had the players laughing.
Derrick Shelby and Joe Kruger had good days from the defensive end spots, both getting pressure and to the quarterback multiple times. LT Tuipulotu had a great penetration and tackle on Thretton Palamo in the backfield that drew him a ton of praise from the coaches.
The linebackers were somewhat neutralized not being in full pads, but did get some nice plays out of Boo Anderson. He won't start, but Anderson is going to be a valuable backup and could provide solid play in a spot start if needed due to injury.
Conroy Black was the best corner today and Wykie Freeman had a solid day. Mike Honeycutt had an INT off of a tipped ball that Brian Blechen should have picked off himself.
