The latest 2011 Utah basketball recruit is Cedric Martin who is a junior college transfer from Lee Community College out of Baytown, Texas. Martin is a 6-foot-4 190-pound shooting guard and picked Utah over offers from Providence, Texas Tech, Creighton, Colorado State and Valporaso.
Martin's relationship with new assistant coaches Andy Hill who previously was at Montana and DeMarlo Slocum from Colorado State were one reason that Martin picked Utah over the other schools who offered. He also feels that he has the chance to step in right away and contribute since there has been changes in the roster. The move to the Pac-12 is what put him over the top in signing with the Utes.
When talking about his game, Martin is very confident when talking about his skills.
"Defense is the best part of my game", Martin said. "I can guard anyone on the court and they will have a tough time scoring over me. I also am able to score as well and overall feel that I have a good sense of the game."
Being a shooting guard, Martin is excited to play with the two 7-footers Utah has in David Foster and Jason Washburn as well being excited about incoming freshman Kareem Storey who also just recently committed to plat at Utah.
Utah is getting a player that wants to work hard and one who wants to be part of a team that will be successful.
"I go hard at all times in practices to get better," Martin said. "I want to help create a team that will be a winner."
Martin is the third player that Utah has signed for the 2011 class.
