Bowman To Visit Utah

JC safety Gerald Bowman (Pierce College) has an impressive offer list from all over the country, but likes the schools in one conference more than any others...

Pierce College safety Gerald Bowman is one of the most sought after JC players in the country for the 2012 class and has been picking up new offers on a weekly basis.

"My recruitment is starting to pickup a lot. It is a long process and I'm just enjoying it while I can."

With offers coming in from all over over the country, Bowman is leaning towards staying out west and going to a Pac 12 school.

"The majority of the Pac 12 schools are standing out. Those schools definitely stick out. I'm still waiting to see what other teams have to offer, but I like the Pac 12 schools."

Bowman has taken a few unofficial visits to Pac 12 schools and plans on visiting Utah at some point over the summer.

"Arizona, Arizona State, UCLA, USC are the schools I've visited. With Utah, I might take an unofficial first and then probably take an official visit at some point during the season."

The move to the Pac 12 and the recent success of the Utah program are weighing heavily in Bowman's thoughts of the Utes, while having a Sugar Bowl winning quarterback recruiting him doesnt hurt.

"They are a very successful program. They were in the top 5 in the BCS rankings at one point last year. I feel really comfortable with them and with coach Brian Johnson. He recently came out to visit and had a lot of good things to say about the program and the school."

While still months from making a decision, the safety does have an idea of when he wants to start paring down his list and what he's looking for in a school.

"I want to at least have an idea of where I want to play by the time to the starts, but don't know for sure when I'll make a decision. As far as things I'm looking for in a program, number one thing is being comfortable. I want to be comfortable and contribute and play right away. Honesty is big too. Some schools will tell you anything to get you to go to their school. Having a great family atmosphere is important too. I'm far away from home, and not even from California. I'm from Philadelphia and want to go to a place where it feels like I'm with family."

What brought the Philly native all the way across the country to California to play junior college football? A few friends and a highlight tape.

"I had some friends that came out to Pierce and they showed the coach my tape and he was excited to have me come out and play for him."

With three years to play two, Bowman is working towards a December graduation so he can enroll early and participate in spring ball in 2012.

"I'm on the right track to graduate in December, and that's the goal."
