Mater Dei Catholic (Vista, CA) offensive lineman Nico Siragusa is a newcomer to the game of football, but is receiving interest from schools all over the west coast.
"This was my first year playing football (played in seven games before a broken finger). My recruitment was a little slow at first. After I went to the the Nike Football Training Camp, it started picking up."
With that camp performance, the 6-6, 300 pounder has been receiving interest from quite a few schools, including a few powerhouse programs and picked up his first offer recently.
"I've been talking to Utah, Arizona, Oregon, Boise State, Fresno State. I have been offered by San Jose State, but no one else has offered yet. They want to see me at their camps."
Wanting to have a wide variety of schools to choose from, the San Diego lineman plans on hitting the camp trail throughout the summer.
"I'm going to go to the Scout camp in LA, UCLA camp in June, San Diego State, Arizona, and Utah."
With his pending visit to Utah, Siragusa has kept in contact with the Utes and has been very impressed what what they have to offer.
"I've been taling to Coach Schramm a lot. Growing up I always liked Utah. They are always the underdogs, and I like that about them. I like that they're going to the Pac 12."
While still looking for offers, he's looking for a good fit and the chance to play early.
"I'm looking for a school that has what I want to study (communications or psychology). I want to be comfortable with the coaches, and find the best fit. Coming in as a freshman and getting playing time is also something I want to be able to do."
With more and more schools showing interest, there's one that stands out to Siragusa that he's hoping offers over any other.
"To be honest, I've always liked Utah and I'm hoping that they offer pretty soon."
Despite the one current offer and more likely on their way, Siragusa plans on riding out the recruiting process and not making a final decision until February of 2012.
"My final decision will probably be on Signing Day and I'm planning on taking all five official visits."
