Tupouata Is A Ute Again

Junior College defensive lineman Sione Tupouata commits to Utah for the second time...

Utah picked up it's third commitment of the 2012 class as JC defensive lineman Sione Tupouata out of Snow (Ephraim, UT) committed to the Utes.

Tupouata originally committed to Utah just before signing day in 2010, but took the junior college route to qualify academically. A recent trip by the coaching staff to visit the lineman paid off in landing his commitment again.

"They came down to see me at Snow and were looking at my grades and were asking if I still wanted to go there and I told them that I do."

Despite interest from other schools since heading off to Snow, Sione never wavered in his desire to play at Utah.

"Other schools were looking at me, but my eyes were always on Utah because they recruited me throughout high school."

At 6-4 and almost 260 pounds, Tupouata fits somewhere between a defensive end and a defensive tackle, but said the coaches will let him decide which position he plays.

"They're telling me that I can play whatever position I feel like playing."

With a reputation for producing NFL lineman, and that being Tupouata's ultimate goal, along with the opportunity to play for family, and Utah was a no brainer.

"That's one of the main reasons that I'm going. They're one of the best at putting linemen in the league. The atmosphere is good, the coaches and line look good. One of the coaches is my cousin, Kalani Sitake."

With early enrollment and mid-year signees becoming more commonplace in college football, Tupouata hopes that he can make it on campus by January for spring ball.

"I'm not sure yet if I'll graduate early, but I'd like to. We'll see what the outcome of my JC classes are, so we'll see."
