Lee Lands Offer From Favorite And Commits

Safety Austin Lee of Alta (Sandy, UT) finally picked up an offer from his hometown school and it didn't take him long to commit...

Austin Lee is one of the top players in the state of Utah for 2012, but only had one offer from Utah State before Tuesday when his hometown favorite of Utah came calling.

"They offered me two days ago. They told me to talk to my parents and call them. That night I called them and said I wanted to be at Utah. Jay Hill was the one I've been talking to."

Proximity to home and the coaching staff were big in his decision as well as the opportunity to play in the Pac 12.

"I just really liked the coaches there. They were so nice to me. I like staying close to my family and friends. It's a great program and I'm excited to get up there. I've always wanted to be a Ute. Them moving to the Pac 12, that helped a lot too."

Despite getting interest from a few other schools, including Pac 12 power Stanford, who Lee's father Doug said could be close to offering, Lee is solid in his commitment and won't look around or take official visits anywhere else.

"This is it. I'm committed to the U."

Ute fans though shouldn't get too excited about seeing Lee on the field in the near future, as the 2012 enrollee won't be suiting up for a game into 2014.

"I still plan on taking my mission. That is something I'm going to be doing. I'll be leaving next October (2012). They want me to take some summer classes and head out on my mission a little early so I'll be a redshirt in 2012. I'll go to their camp and play a bit in camp."

With his commitment out of the way, and his summer approaching shortly, Lee is looking forward to taking some time off.

"I'm just going to relax now, but also work hard and prove that I'm worth the offer."
