Simon Goines of Central High (Keller, TX) possesses ideal size for a left tackle at the college football level. At 6-8, 288 pounds and growing, he's the kind of player that turns into a cornerstone of the line.
"My recruitment has been going pretty good. I've been getting a lot of offers recently. Utah actually offered me a few days ago."
With the Utes graduating senior John Cullen after the 2011 season, Goines would have an opportunity to step in right away and compete for time at the left tackle spot.
"I really like Utah. They win and they seem like they really care about their players. I've been talking to them for about a month and like what Coach Scalley has told me. He's a really cool guy. I'm going to be visiting there in June or July"
The big lineman also likes the Utes penchant for putting linemen into the NFL.
"Their ability to put guys in the leage is big for me."
Planning a mid to late summer decision, Goines has a pretty simple criteria for what he wants in a school.
"I want to go somewhere that has a good business school first. Also somewhere where I fit into the team and am comfortable."
Despite multiple visits already completed to schools like Kansas State, Baylor, Oklahoma, LSU, and SMU, Goines is still lacking a favorite.
"I don't really have any favorites right now. I'm just seeing what everyone has to offer. I Want to take a couple more visits to see what each school has to offer before I start noarrowing it down to about seven schools."
Goines is also a star basketball player who is being recruited to be a post player and has offers from two Big 12 schools that want him on the hardwood as well as the football field.
"Kansas State and Baylor have offered me to play both sports. I would like to play both, but we'll see how things go."
