Recruitment Picks Up For Jacobs

The 2013 PG from Desert Pines High School talks about his recruitment.

Julian Jacobs played his Freshman and Sophomore seasons at Eldorado High School in Las Vegas. The well-rounded point guard averaged 10 points per game, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds as a sophomore.

Following his sophomore season, Jacobs started to see interest from a number of colleges, including Demarlo Slocum at Colorado State. After Slocum joined Larry Krystkowiak's staff at the University of Utah, the Runnin' Utes began to show serious interest.

Earlier this year, Utah was the first school to offer Jacobs a scholarship.

"It was definitely a surprise. It was also a bit of relief because I had worked so hard for it, and to finally have my dreams coming true. But definitely not satisfied. Still gotta work for it…but it was definitely a big surprise."

Since Utah's offer, Jacobs has received offers from Pepperdine, Santa Clara, and Saint Mary's. Many more schools have also showed interest.

"I think VaTech might offer, I think San Francisco, University of Detroit has contacted me a lot. It's possible USC. A lot of PAC-12 schools have shown interest, written letters, called, stuff like that."

At first, Jacobs was not very familiar with the University of Utah. Since that time, he has made himself very familiar with the history of the program and the athletic department.

"Utah, it's a really nice neighborhood, and a really nice atmosphere. You don't have to worry about trouble…not that I'm a trouble maker or anything, but there's also not much to influence that way. The people up there are really nice. And I definitely feel that they are headed in the right direction, and if I go there, I could definitely send them that way."

"It's a really nice place. I went up there to a camp."

During the first week of open recruitment, Jacobs saw coaches from Utah in attendance at one of his early workouts. Jacobs was quite flattered by the honor.

"It's humbling. They like me a lot. It's pretty cool, and it's good to be wanted. Like I said, it's humbling, but it's pretty cool. cool. They are expecting me to go there, and it will definitely be one of my top picks when it comes down to signing."

"I don't want to decide right now, but (Utah) is probably the top one right now."

Jacobs doesn't want to finalize his decision until he is 100% certain, which Jacobs expects to be by next year.
