Jackson Coming To Utah

The Utes add So Cal linebacker Jake Jackson to their 2012 class...

Linebacker Jake Jackson out of Encinitas (CA) La Costa Canyon has pledged to his allegiance to the Utes giving them their first linebacker commit for the 2012 class.

"Yes I did commit to Utah. Coach Schramm came down today to check out our practice. He offered me last June and we were just talking today and I just did it."

Despite having the offer for some time, Jackson always knew that Utah was where he would end up.

"First of all, Utah is a good place for me because we're LDS. It was my dream school since I was a little kid. I have a lot of family and family friend that are Utah fans. It seems like a good fit. I went up there for a church camp last July and I stayed in the dorms and I really liked it."

The 6-2.5, 205 pound linebacker didn't have a ton of offers on the table, but was hearing from schools throughout the Beehive State

"Utah was my only big offer. There were a couple of division 1-AA offers. I was talking to BYU and SUU. I pretty much knew I wanted to go to Utah though."

Jackson, who is LDS, plans of enrolling at Utah next summer and participating into the fall before leaving for his mission.

"I'm going to Utah next June. I'll do summer weights and then leave for my mission that October."

Jackson feels as if he would have still gone to Utah if they hadn't made the jump to a BCS Conference, but is excited that he can now come home at least once a year to play in front of friends and family in Southern California in the Pac 12.

"It's fricken sweet. I would have gone there if they were in the Mountain West, but the Pac 12 puts it on a whole new level and made me want to go there even more."

The linebacker feels as if he can be an asset to the Utah defense with the abilities he brings to the table.

"My pass rush, finding the ball, and getting to it are my biggest strengths. Just making plays."

Jackson will be heading to Salt Lake City for his official visit in a couple of weeks for a game that could end up determining the Pac 12 South Champion.

"I'm coming out for the Arizona State game in two weeks. It should be a good time. I can't wait."
