Las Vegas (NV) Desert Pines offensive lineman Jeremiah Poutasi is Poutasi visited Utah officially over the weekend and came away impressed.
"It was great. I really loved it out there. I hung out with my cousin (Brandon Fanaika) and got to see a lot of places out there that he took me. I got to hang out with the players and everything, so it was good."
Poutasi was hosted by another Las Vegas native and current Utah lineman in Jeremiah Tofaeono.
"It was real good because I knew him from Vegas already. It made me feel like I was at home."
The coaches and the family atmosphere that Utah breeds was also a standout to the Sin City lineman, who liked their no blame attitude.
"I really love the coaches; Norm Chow, Whittingham, Jay Hill. I really love the coaches up there and they showed me a lot of love. The players are like a family up there and that's what I really like. They don't point fingers at each other."
Having tripped to Arizona State recently and with the Utes playing the Sun Devils on Saturday, Poutasi was able to get a great feel for how the two programs stacked up and came away giving Utah the higher marks.
"A 10. It's a 10. I'd give Arizona State like an 8."
Despite the ASU victory over the Utes, the loss didn't put a damper on the weekend for Poutasi or push him towards the Sun Devils.
"I know Utah lost, but the fans were still rocking. It really didn't matter to me that Utah lost."
Despite the great visit, his recruitment is not over yet, as he still plans on taking his three remaining visits, but did name a leader for his services.
"I'm still going to take a couple more visits, all of my visits actually, but my head is leaning towards Utah right now."
Only one of those visit destinations in known, while two others remain open.
"I'm know Hawaii for sure, but I'm not sure about the others yet."
Poutasi also indicated that he'll be making a second visit to Utah, this one unofficial, for another game later this month.
I'll probably be coming up there again on the 29th against Oregon State."
With a decision planned for December, Poutasi's mother has been very instrumental in helping guide him in making one of the most important decisions of his life and would prefer he head south to the desert.
"She's more comfortable with me going to Arizona State, but she said that if I'm happy at Utah, then I should go to Utah. She just told me that if I go there (Utah), promise that I'll make it. I promised her that I would make it and she's all good with that."
Having spent time with his cousin, highly rated prospect Brandon Fanaika, during the trip, the two talked often about playing together, something that looks very likely should Poutasi pick the Utes.
"Me and Brandon, definitely we'd like to play together. He was just telling me all this stuff about Utah and saying that if I come here that I'll love it. He loves it and his parents love it."
