Recruiting Reset- Defense

The Utes are still looking for defensive backs and defensive linemen for the 2012 class...

Utah has made the defensive line a priority for the 2012 class and has been pretty successful to this point with three commits, all at the end position, but lost out on the big prize of Troy Hinds to BYU.

Moses Foluahola COMMITTED
Foluahola picked up an offer at the Elite Camp and committed to the Utes that day. He's got nice size and a good motor. Hearing that he could be a possible greyshirt candidate.

Hunter Dimick COMMITTED
Dimick came out of nowhere to impress at the lineman camp and pick up an offer from the Utes. He committed shortly after and is a solid addition to the class. He's fairly stocky, but uses his weight well and will probably grow into a defensive tackle down the line. Dimick has been a monster thus far in his senior season for Syracuse.

Sione Tupouata COMMITTED
Tupouata is a JC player that was originally part of the 2010 class, but is currently at Snow while getting his grades in order and even decided to sit out to 2011 season to give himself more time at Utah when he arrives. He's athletic and has even played running back in the past. A definite instant impact guy wherever they decide to put him.

Polo Manukainiu (Offered- Committed to Oklahoma)
Manuakainui committed to Oklahoma back in August and has been pretty vocal in trying to get more players to Norman to play for the Sooners. He told InsideTheUtes just days ago that he would end up taking all of his trips, though, and Utah would be one of them.

Tony Winslow (Offered)
Winslow is an undersized linebacker who has the Utes in his top 2 along with Arizona. With the Wildcats letting head coach Mike Stoops go, that could play into Utah's favor. Winslow has good speed and a great body that will get him on the field early. Will visit Utah.

Koliniasi Leota (Offered)
Leota is an immediate impact player who will compete for playing time immediately wherever he lands. The Utes are in a good place with him, and probably the leader, but he also is showing a lot of interest in Oregon State and Miami.

Pasoni Tasini (Offered)
Tasini stated that early that Utah was his favorite and nothing seems to have changed at this point. BYU is showing interest, and it appears, being LDS, that he wants to come to Utah to play his football. The Utes have a great shot of landing the defensive lineman.

John Gandy

Kory Rasmussen (Offered)
Rasmussen has an offer and is a teammate of current commit Kiha Sai. He attended the Elite Camp in June and could play at either defensive line spot. Don't be surprised if Rasmussen ends up taking his official visit the same weekend as Sai.

Vaha Vainuku
Vainuku has said that he'd commit to Utah immediately if offered. He attended the elite camp, but the coaches want to see more development over the season before they offer. Utah has been at a few games, but he probably won't pick up anything until after the season.

Chris Brown (JC- Offered)
The Utes recently jumped in on the JC defensive lineman out of Arizona. He's a 3 to play 2 guy and we're told that he'll visit Utah officially.

Tomme Mark (Offered)
Mark has been pretty quiet about what his intentions are, but the Utes are staying in the thick of it and are one of his leaders at this junction. He's said that he'll visit Utah at some point officially. He's the kind of player that is ready to make an immediate impact at the next level.

Others to Watch

Ryan Allen
Lino Tuifalasai (JC)

The linebacker spot doesn't appear to be a big need for the Utes as they've only extended a few offers. With the movement on the roster to bring up Brian Blechen from safety (at least part time) and Trevor Reilly back from defensive end (part time as well), as well as the glut of other youngsters pushing for time, linebacker isn't a pressing need. Look for this position to be addressed more in the 2013 class, but it is more of a priority than it was a couple of weeks ago.

Jake Jackson COMMITTED
Jackson caught a lot of people by surprise with his commitment in late September. He's a very good athlete, but will need to add some bulk before getting on campus.

Moana Ofahengaue (Offered)
Ofahengaue has been fairly quiet throughout the process, but rumors have him looking to head out of state. If he stays home, Utah is the place, but we're told that Nebraska is doing very well with him.

Jared Afalava (Offered)
Afalava hasn't tipped his hand much, but appears to be down to Utah and Oregon unless someone else swoops in late. He's an elite linebacker and has a body that is ready to step in right away. A must get for Utah.

Others to Watch:

Caleb Saulo
Johnny Watkins (JC)

Is there a bigger position of need for the 2012 class than at corner? With the question marks on the team currently at that spot and not a single corner landed in the 2011 class, Utah needs guys that can play right away, and they've got one of those committed in Justin Thomas. They'll try to get at least two more, with one of those coming from the JC ranks.

Justin Thomas COMMITTED
Thomas showed little interest in Utah early, but Morgan Scalley made a strong impression in August and was able toe get a commitment out of the elite corner from Texas. He's taking his senior year off because of age issues and plans on enrolling at Utah in January.

Kasseim Everett (Offered)
Everett's only offer at the moment is from the Utes so that's who he is favoring at the moment. Is receiving interest from a few Big 12 and Big 10 schools, but none have offered. Will visit officially after the season and is an early enrollee.

Davonte Neal (Offered)
Neal visited the Utes unofficially recently with teammate Cody Ippolito, who will be walking on at Utah. The Utes have made a serious move with Neal and are prime position to earn one of his visits. He's an elite player at either corner or receiver and would be the jewel of the class.

Chris Bivins (Offered- Committed to South Florida)
Bivins has ties to the state out Utah and made a surprise early commitment to South Florida. He had a big summer and more interest came his way. Bivins recently visited Arkansas and may end up taking all of his visits. Don't' be surprised if Utah gets one.

Alphonso Marsh (Offered)
Marsh was thought to be a package deal with teammate Brandon Beaver, but those two are likely to head to different schools now. Marsh has narrowed down his list and has Utah in his top four with a visit coming, likely after the season.

DaCarlos Renfro
Renfro is/was a teammate of Justin Thomas and would commit instantly if Utah offered. Morgan Scalley went and saw the Texas product a few weeks ago, but the Utes are still holding off on throwing out anything official.

Others To Watch

JT Anderson
Kyle Wilson

The Utes addressed the safety position heavily in the 2011 class and they likely won't take more than two. Lee is already on board and will be heading out on a mission his freshman year. A JC player would be ideal as the other pickup.

Lee picked up an offer from the Utes in mid-May and committed the next day, giving Utah the top safety prospect in the state for 2012. He's an elite player who has out-performed his ranking at camps over the spring and summer. Lee plans on taking a mission his freshman year at Utah.

Gerald Bowman (JC- Offered)
Bowman is one of the most heavily recruited JC players in the country this year. He has more even more interest than Keith McGill did last season. Rumors have him liking the local schools in UCLA and USC, but Utah sent multiple coaches out to watch one of his games recently, including Kyle Whittingham and supposedly made an impact. While he's still a longshot, a visit is possible, although not probable.

Randy Uzoma (Committed to Nevada)
Uzoma's recruitment has really taken off in the last few weeks after committing to Nevada, and he was just offered by Oregon. The Utes have not offered, but are staying in close contact in case things fall through with others.
