Dielman Makes His Decision

Offensive lineman JJ Dielman ends the suspense and commits to Utah...

Offensive lineman J.J. Dielman became the second player this week to commit to Utah, both on the offensive line.

"I did commit to Utah. I woke up this morning and said to myself 'Today is a good day to be a Ute,' so I called my high school coach and my recruiting coach and told them."

The unofficial visit that Dielman took over the summer, along with the relationship he developed with the coaches was key in landing the big man out of Arizona.

"When I took my unofficial visit up there, I really liked it, and really liked the coaches. Utah is a great place to live, so there really wasn't much of a decision for me to make."

Utah was Dielman's first offer, and that initial interest in him from the Ute coaches ended up going a long ways in getting him to Salt Lake City.

"They were my first offer, and I didn't think that was going to mean much at the beginning of the year, but it kind of did. They were the first school that actually wanted me and wanted to give me the chance."

Dielman will take his official visiting January 13th and then coming out this summer to start classes.

"I'll be enrolling over the summer after I finish a little before June."

The seemingly undersized Dielman is working hard to gain weight and add mass before getting to Utah so he can contribute right away instead of redshirting, but has been told which position he'll be playing when he arrives

"Redshirting all depends on how much weight I can gain before the season starts. I plan on going up there at about 265 to 270. I'll be playing center up there, so it all depends on how much weight I can put on when I get there, and then we'll decide if I'm going to redshirt or not. I mostly played right tackle in high school, and some left tackle. I haven't played center since I was in pee-wee football."

Dielman is the 16th verbal commitment in Utah's 2012 class.
