Lutui Finds His Home

4 star center Hiva Lutui commits to Utah calling it a home away from home.

Utah picked up its third four star commit in their 2012 class with a verbal pledge from the third ranked center in the country in Hiva Lutui.

"I actually committed to the coaches last night, but wanted to keep it quiet until today."

Utah's move to the Pac 12 and the fact that the program appears to be on the rise, along with their sterling academic reputation made the decision an easy one for the big man out of Texas.

"Utah is a great place and I felt really comfortable there. They're a program that's on the rise and can compete with anyone. Their academics really good and really second to Stanford in the Pac 12.

Lutui also cited his relationship the Utah coaches and their constant contact as something that always kept Utah in the game and something he highly respected.

"The coaches have been recruiting me since the beginning and they never stopped recruiting me. Other schools would recruit me hard, then I wouldn't hear from them for weeks. Utah was never like that and they were always keeping in touch."

Having also taken visits to UCLA, USC, and BYU, Lutui didn't have the same experience at those schools that Utah provided when he visited in December.

"The Utah visit was my first visit and it really set the bar for the other visits. None of the other visits lived up to Utah. It felt like a home away from home."

The Polynesian community at Utah and the strong Polynesian influence on the football team, both of which made Lutui more comfortable with the Utes, gave him a sense of calm and familiarity on his visit.

"Utah has a strong Polynesian community, which is what I have out here and that made me really comfortable."

Lutui also considered BYU and USC, and now is looking forward to taking on the Trojans and Cougars on the field.

"I'm just excited to line up across from those schools and let them know what I'm there. They're going to know I'm coming."

With signing day less than 36 hours away Lutui will be sending in his letter of intent after signing at a ceremony at his high school.

"I'm so glad that it's almost over and I can send in my paperwork and be done with everything."
