Utah doesn't typically pull a lot of recruits out of the deep south, but they're trying again with the 2013 class and one of those players they'd like to get is athlete Reggie Wilkerson.
"Right now my recruitment, it's not very hectic, but it's going ok. I've had a few schools come down and see me."
Wilkerson reports offers from Utah, Duke, South Florida and Iowa State and is hearing from a host of others including some of the local schools with plans to attend a couple of junior days.
"I'm heading to USF this weekend and Florida the following week for their junior days."
Putting education and early playing time high on his list of priorities is common with most recruits, and the 5-11, 170 pound prospect isn't any different.
"I'm mostly looking for a great education and playing time. I want to be able to get out there and help the team right from the jump and do what I can."
Wilkerson is receiving interest on both sides of the ball as both a slot receiver and a defensive back, but the Utes know where they want to use him.
"Utah told me DB. When the defensive coordinator came down, he told me and my coach that they think I fit best as a DB. I really don't know a lot about Utah right now, but I saw the way they played in the bowl game and I was very impressed."
Wilkerson has one school at the top of his list, but they're yet to offer and will be looking at all of his options before making a decision.
"I was born a Cane, so I really like Miami and Florida, but I'm willing to go anywhere. i just want to find a good spot for me."
That decision won't be coming until the end of the summer, but Wilkerson is working hard in the classroom so he can graduate early and be ready to attend spring ball somewhere in 2013.
"I'll probably decide in August or September. I'm taking extra classes over the summer so I can graduate early and get to college in January."
If he sticks to his decision timeframe, Wilkerson will likely have a busy summer if he is able to get out and visit the schools that he still intends on seeing.
"Alabama, Arkansas, and Utah are three other schools that I want to visit. Those are the three that I haven't been to that I want to see what they have to offer."
