Spring Position Battles- Cornerback

Conroy Black is gone, but the Utes have two experienced corners returning...

Candidates: Wykie Freeman, Ryan Lacy, Mo Lee, Mike Honeycutt, Chandler Johnson, Joseph Smith, Reggie Topps, Lewis Walker
Favorites: Ryan Lacy, Mo Lee, Reggie Topps
Dark Horse: Wykie Freeman, Joseph Smith
Winners: Ryan Lacy, Mo Lee

The Utes lost Conroy Black to graduation. Replacing Black will be a difficult task. Ryan Lacy and Mo Lee took turns starting last season, and based on matchup, Utah used them both a lot. Lacy is the speedster, boasting one of the fastest 40 times on the team, and in the conference. Mo Lee is the converted WR who is getting better and better, with great size and strength for the position. Mike Honeycutt and Reggie Topps saw a lot of time last season at the nickelback position, and both should see some time this season. Freshman Chandler Johnson worked his way up the depth chart into the two-deep.

Waiting in the wings are a couple of very talented young DBs in Wykie Freeman and Joseph Smith. Both have been the recipients of compliments from Utah coaches. Also in the wings is Judge High product Lewis Walker who joined the Utes in 2011 after transferring from Hawaii. Walker was in the rotation at Hawaii, and could surprise some people this season.
