Power backs with speed aren't easy to come by, but Lompoc (CA) has one of the best in the west in 2013 prospect Lavon Coleman who has four offers to his name already.
"So far I have offers from Washington. Washington State, Oregon State, and Utah. I've also been talking to the coaches from USC, Boise State and Iowa State. I visited USC unofficially this past Saturday, but I'm really hoping that I can get an SEC offer soon."
Despite the four offers, two other schools are standing out, both of whom he rooted for growing up.
"My cousin went to USC, so I liked them while he was there, but I've always liked South Carolina. The Gamecocks."
The 5-11, 205 pounder is receiving his interest on the offensive side of the ball, but also lines up on defense for his Lompoc High squad, showing his athleticism and versatility.
"Every school I've talked to is recruiting me at running back, but I also play corner on my high school team."
Coleman is looking for the best fit for himself in terms of the academics a school provides and how comfortable he feels on campus.
"I'm looking for a school with a good coaching staff and a good offensive line. A place where I can feel relaxed and at home. Also a school where I can major in psychology."
With the Utes being one of his four offers, Coleman has been learning more about the program and has a current coach that can tell him all about what Utah has to offer.
"Utah is pretty interesting. They use their running backs a lot and they always put up good numbers. I use their playbook when I play NCAA (video game) so I like how they spread out the ball. My coach (Matt Sims) also played there."
Coleman is a long ways from determining whether or not Utah, or another school, is the right place for him as he has no plans of making a decision anytime soon.
"I'm looking to take all of my official visits during the season and then make a decision right after the season. I don't want to keep everyone waiting and want to be able to get it out of the way, but I want to take the visits so I can weigh all of my options."
