Utah would love to develop a pipeline into one of top Southern California's top high school programs at Westlake's Oaks Christian. The powerhouse has been a CIF and state title contender for years and produces some of the top talent on the west coast, year in and year out. One of those talented players is 2013 outside linebacker Cameron Judge. Judge has seen his recruitment really take off in the past few weeks as he picks up offer after offer.
"I'm at six offers right now from Oregon State, Vanderbilt, Utah, Arizona, Utah, UCLA, and Texas A&M. I think Colorado is going to offer soon and Washington as well. I've also been talking to Oregon, Michigan, and Notre Dame."
With those six offers, one school appears to have nudge ahead of the rest, while the rest scramble for position.
"I went to UCLA's junior day recently and I like them a lot. I'm good friends with Jordan Payton and Ishmael Adams and they both just signed there. Most schools are pretty even though."
Judge is putting academics at the top of his list of requirements, along with developing a comfortability with the school and the area.
"Academics are near the top. Also the environment at the school with the coaches, players and other students. The location is important as well, as I need to find a place that I'm comfortable living in."
Utah extended an offer recently and Judge has spent a lot of time staying in contact with the coaching staff.
"Brian Johnson, the offensive coordinator, has been the main coach that has been recruiting me, but I've talked to a lot of different coaches from Utah. They've told me how their linebackers make a lot of plays. The said that the defensive line does a good job of taking on blockers and really sets up the linebackers to make a lot of tackles. They said they need more playmakers at linebacker."
The senior to be played exclusively on offense in 2011, but will be playing on both side in 2012 in an attempt to fill holes for his team.
"Last year I only played linebacker, but this year I'm going to play some offense too at running back and slot receiver."
Judge recored 113 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery in 2011 for the Lions, helping lead them to the CIF Northern Division Championship Game and would like to so do again. His hopes of making an early decision and not having it distract him from his senior year will go a long ways towards that goal.
"I'm hoping to make my decision before my senior season, but only if I've found the right spot. If it takes longer than that, then that's ok. I'll take my time to find the right school if I have to."
