Uaea Masina is a beast. Coming off of an impressive performance in the NLA 7 on 7 event in which he helped lead Utah Team 1 to a championship, the linebacker/defensive end prospect out of Salt Lake City (UT) Brighton is destined to receiver more interest and offers as his recruitment picks up.
"I've been talking to a couple of schools. Mostly Stanford, Utah State, Utah, BYU, Oregon, and Michigan. No offers yet. A lot of schools are trying to get me to come to their camps to see what I can do."
Masina grew up rooting for the Utes and will have a chance to attend the team's scrimmage on Friday.
"I've always been a Utah fan. My grandparents both work at the university with the Pioneer Theater as well. The coaches invited me to come to their scrimmage on Friday so I'll be there. Anytime I get an offer to come up and visit, it's very exciting."
The defensive prospect has a busy summer planned with multiple campus and camp visits lined up in hopes of landing that first offer.
"I'll be going to the Utah, Utah State, Stanford, and the All-Poly camp this summer."
At 6-4, 216 pounds, Masina has the build of a linebacker now, but could grow into a defensive end, or even turn into a devastating safety with his 4.67 speed.
"So far all schools like me as an outside linebacker, safety or defensive end."
With schools like Stanford, Oregon, and Michigan showing interest, along with the local schools, Masina may end up having the option of leaving the state, but that isn't a draw for him at this point.
"I don't have a preference as far as going out of state. I just need to find the right college and the feel I get when I visit there will be important. The education is important as well. I'm going to major in engineering and Utah, BYU, and Stanford all have great engineering programs. My family is all about education."
Masina is working hard in the classroom and may end up enrolling early if he finds the right school and can through the necessary schoolwork.
"I'm taking electives my senior year and I've already taken the SAT and the ACT. I scored a 25 on the ACT, have a 3.49 GPA and am taking 3 honors classes."
