As one of the top prospects at his position, John Lopez has plenty of offers to choose from, including one from the Utes. With many options to consider the Utes are making a hard push to land one of the nation's best offensive linemen.
"I have offers from UCLA, Florida State, San Diego State, Arizona, Washington, Washington State, Utah, Arkansas, and others that I know I'm missing. I think USC is close to offering me and I'm starting to get some love from the SEC schools, so I have a lot of schools still talking to me."
Utah has been after Lopez for a while now and the determination from the coaches has already begun to pay off. John is being recruited by Aaron Roderick and was recently on the Utah campus during the Utes' Junior Day and Red-White Game taking in the sights and sounds.
"I came out to Utah's Junior Day and was out at the spring game a couple of weeks ago. It was pretty awesome. Being from California there's so many teams to choose from there's no like one big team to support, but going out to Utah and seeing that everybody's either wearing red or blue I thought that was pretty awesome. I've never seen that before."
Lopez is currently doing his best to visit the campuses of all of the schools that he has offers from. With so much at stake he's trying his hardest to learn about every school before he makes his final decision.
"Right now me and my parents are doing some traveling and getting out to the schools that I have offers from. I'm just trying to see how I fit into the programs. I'm checking out the teams, their facilities, the atmospheres, and really just trying to make an informed decision."
With signing day still many months away Lopez insists he has no favorites and no reservations. Ultimately he says his decision will come down to the right fit rather than the right conference or location.
"Everybody is pretty even right now. I'm going to start narrowing it down as it gets into the summer months and I can hopefully get out to all these schools and get a feel for them. Then I can narrow it down to a top-five or top-three. Where I play doesn't matter. It could be close to home, it could be east coast. It just depends on how I fit in to the school."
"What I'm really looking for is a school with a good football atmosphere, something that you can get excited for, something that makes you want to play hard each and every Saturday. I also want to be comfortable at the school I pick and get that hometown feel when I'm there."
So did he find that during his time at Utah?
"I definitely liked the football atmosphere. The fans and stadium were ridiculous. The city was beautiful too so I really liked to see that. I really liked the atmosphere they had there, there will definitely be a second trip to get a real good feel for it."
Lopez is currently planning on making an official visit to Utah later this year.
