The Utah recruiting machine continues as Marcells Pippins committed to the Utes on Wednesday, less than a week after returning from his official visit.
"I had a great time on my visit. Being down there made me realize that's where I want to be and it felt like a good environment."
Pippins commitment this afternoon really got the Utah coaches fired up when he called them to let them know.
"I called Coach Tuiaki. He was very excited and had me talk to Coach Shah as well. He was even more excited."
The environment, particularly the gameday environment, left a huge impression on Pippins and helped solidify his pledge.
"The visit really sealed it for me. Everyone was ready to play, and the defense was swarming all over the ball. The fans were crazy. It was a great experience."
With Moe Lee, Reggie Topps, and Ryan Lacy all exhausting their eligibility after this season, the 5-11, 175 pounder is excited to come in and compete right away for playing time.
"That was big. Their top 3 corners right now are graduating, so I'll have a chance to come in and compete for a starting spot as a true freshman."
Despite the commitment, Pippins still would like to take a few official visits to experience what the other schools have to offer.
"I don't know if I'm going to take anymore visits. I still have to talk to the Utah coaches about that. I want to still visit UCLA and maybe a few others."
Pippins will be graduating in June after he finishes his high school basketball season, but will be spending the next couple of months trying to get a couple more players to come to Utah.
"I'm going to be working on a few guys to try to get them to come to Utah. They'll do what they have to do, but I'll work on it."
