An impressive win tonight for the Runnin' Utes. After an emotional past few days for not only the basketball program but the university and community as a whole, this was a big win for the Utes. Patches with the initials RM were given out to the fans to pay tribute to the late Rick Majerus. Along with the patch, there was also a video played of coach Majerus right before tip-off as well as many clips of the old Majerus teams throughout the game. The University did a great job paying tribute to Majerus, and the Utes came out with emotion and were able to come away with the win.
This is a big win for the Utes, as Boise State is a team who had put together a nice little resume for themselves by knocking off then ranked #11 Creighton on the road and nearly knocking off Tom Izzo's Michigan State on the road as well. For Utah to walk away with a 21 point victory over the broncos is a big accomplishment for this young team.
Utah played tough defense tonight and were aggressive on the boards all game long finishing with a 31-18 advantage in rebounding. On offense, Utah shot the ball very well finishing 67.5% from the field and 56.3% from beyond the arch. The shot selection was the best I'd seen from this team thus far.
Jarred DuBois was the leading scorer for the Utes finishing with 18 points on 5 of 10 shooting and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line. Jason Washburn and Jordan Loveridge were the next highest scorers finishing with 13 and 11 respectively. Washburn was a perfect 6-6 from the field and chipped in 6 rebounds. Unfortunately, 5 turnovers were also in Washburn's stat line. Glen Dean was another player who had a great game tonight for the Utes. Dean finished with 8 points, 6 assists, and led the Utes in rebounding with 9.
This victory should be a huge confidence boost for the Utes as they will take this momentum down to Provo and face BYU on Saturday night. The Marriott Center will be rocking as it's the only time the two teams meet this season. If the Utes can come away with the victory, it would be another huge win for the Utes and a great way for this team to head into finals week.
