Early 2014 Recruiting Look: Quarterback

Taking a look at the Utah QB targets for the 2014 class

With three quarterbacks coming in for the 2013 class, taking a 2014 QB is not a necessity for Utah. Throw in your starter and backup being sophomores, and Chase Hansen returning for the 2015 season, and Utah is fairly well positioned for the foreseeable future under center. So, under what scenario do they take a QB in this recruiting cycle? He needs to be elite and someone that fits the system. No reaches or projects in this class. If the Utes can get a guy that will be a high impact player, and fits their system, they'll take him.

The Offers
Keller Chryst
Chryst is a pipe-dream for Utah. He's a top five QB nationally and will have his pick of schools. Dennis Erickson helps Utah's cause, but with hometown Stanford and USC in the mix, along with ties to Pitt, the Utes are going to have their work cut out if they want to be a player for the numebr 2 quarterbacks in the country.

Brandon Dawkins
Dawkins looks like the most realistic target at this time, although Utah is going to have to fight off some big time schools. The Utes were the first offer for the dual-threat kid out of Westlake Village (CA) Oaks Christian, but Notre Dame has since jumped in as well. The Utes are putting in a lot of time with Dawkins, and he's developed a strong relationship with Brian Johnson. As it stands now, Dawkins is the most likely get, but it's far from a sure thing.

K.J. Carta-Samuels (Committed to Vanderbilt)
Carta-Samuels has been committed to Vanderbilt for some time. He's putting academics high on his list of priorities and it's tough to compete with the likes of the Commodores on an academic front. They're one of the premier schools in the country in that regard.

Remaining Targets
Brad Kaaya
Manny Wilkins
Morgan Mahalak
Nick Bawden
