Bonney Considering Utah

Lamar (TX) 4-star DB John Bonney recently received an offer from Utah. Now Ute fans hope coach Morgan Scalley can work his Texas recruiting magic.

Lamar (TX) 4-star DB John Bonney is not an under-the-radar prospect.

Recently Bonney added an offer from the Utes to his already very impressive list of interested schools.

Bonney is currently sitting on 19 offers, including some from programs such as Baylor, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas to name just a few.

The Utes may have an advantage when it comes to available playing time. Utah's secondary is young. At corner Bonney could potentially step in and fight for a starting spot right away, while the safety position will need to replace Eric Rowe after next season. Their plan to bring in JUCO transfer Tevin Carter to fill Brian Blechen's void at strong safety could mean that they will need two new safeties after the 2014 season if things work out as projected.

Utah coaches hope that John Bonney can be that immediate-impact guy. He is a hard-hitting 6'1" 180-pound DB that can play multiple positions. He has the skill to play corner but the natural instincts of a safety. That all-around ability is one of the many reasons why he has the choice to play just about anywhere.

Bonney is in no rush to make a decision, but he did tell me that the Utes are a school he is considering while he continues to keep his options open. He says he is impressed with the Utah coaching staff and the school itself and says "Coach Scalley is a really good coach".

Bonney also says he hopes to get a chance to visit Utah this summer.
