As the dominoes begin to fall with the top quarterbacks in the land, those who don't have a commitment yet have to push deeper into their evaluations to uncover the hidden gems. Enter Donovan Isom.
At 6-4, 235 pounds Isom looks more like a future defensive end than a quarterback, but the big man out of Louisiana can sling it with the best of them, and it's a big reason why he's picking up offers.
"My recruitment is going good. Utah just offered me the other day and things are going really well. Coach Johnson offered me and we've got a pretty good relationship. He talked to my mom the day he offered and really sounds like he knows what he's talking about."
With Utah now jumping into the Isom pool, he has a total of with more possibly coming.
"Miami, Louisiana Tech, Tulane, South Alabama, and Southern have also offered. I just talked to Duke today and they might offer."
The Utah offers was a big one, and while Isom doesn't know much about the Utes, he's learning more.
"I know they have a rich tradition. I watched a few of their games this season and when Coach Johnson played there. I really like their spread offense. We run the same thing at my school, so if I committed there, it wouldn't be any different."
Despite all of the offers from schools in the South, Isom has no quarrels with leaving the region and playing elsewhere at the next level.
"I don't care if I go to Alaska. I just want to play football. I'm looking for a school with good academics, somewhere that will better me as a person and a player so i can get to the NFL and excel at a high level."
Not wanting to list any favorites, Isom did hint at two schools that have offered as standing out above the rest.
"I don't have any favorites. whatever happens with my recruitment, happens. I'm just blessed to be in the position I'm in and to be getting these offers. Utah was a real blessing to receive. Utah and Miami are big ones."
Isom would like to finish up his recruitment soon, but isn't holding himself to a set timetable.
"As of right now, I'm going to decide before the season starts or right after the season starts. If something changes, I could wait until signing day, but I want to get it out of the way so it doesn't interfere with my season."
For now, Isom is making visit plans and has a busy summer ahead of him.
"I'm definitely going to take an official to Utah. I have an unofficial to Miami, and I'll be going to Alabama's camp and Mississippi State."
