'15 quarterback Sam Darnold took a visit to Utah this week and came away impressed.
With an offer from Utah already in hand, other schools such as UCLA and Arizona are beginning to show interest in the 6'4" 200 pound junior.
While attending San Clemente high school, Darnold formed a good relationship with Utah's current quarterback Travis Wilson who also quarterbacked at San Clemente HS. And although San Clemente had a tough season last year, Darnold told me that the ultimate goal is to win every game, and if in fact they do take some losses, to make sure and learn from them.
When making his decision as to where he will play his college ball, Darnold would like to stay close to home. Darnold illustrated the fact that his sister attends college in Rhode Island, and that he's not the biggest fan of the distance away from home.
Along with proximity to home, Donald is also looking for a program who can offer modern facilities, a great coaching staff, and teammates that he feels comfortable with.
Being from Southern California, Darnold grew up a USC fan, and always dreamt of attending the school. Although, this has changed as of late with schools such as Utah and UCLA joining the mix with Utah standing on top of his list of favorites.
Darnold had a great time on his visit to Utah and was there from Sunday through Tuesday morning. Although he wasn't able to spend much time with his former teammate T. Wilson due to Wilson's busy schedule with fall camp underway, Darnold was able to spend a lot of time with coach Andy Roderick and Fred Whittingham. Between touring the campus/facilities/stadium, going to meetings, and attending practice, Darnold got a good feel of what Utah is all about.
With summer winding down and the football season just weeks away, Darnold said he will not attend any camps or go on any other visits until next summer.
