Utah dominates St Katherine, win 124-51
The Utes took care of the St Katherine Firebirds by rolling to a 124-51 victory. The Utes shook some of the rust off from their Christmas Break and won their final tune-up game before conference play gets underway. The Utes jumped out to an 8-0 start and never looked back. The competition was horrible, but the Utes looked sharp. The positives from this game are that nobody got hurt and Larry was able to go deep in to the bench. Jr. College transfer Marko Kovacevic made his season debut by scoring 8 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and blocking a shot in just 8 minutes of play.
Per usual, Jordan Loveridge led the Utes in scoring by dropping 17 points, snagging 7 rebounds, dishing out 4 assists and getting a steal. Delon Wright had another crazy stat line. His scoring wasn't needed as he only had 6 points, but he grabbed 17 rebounds (which is absurd), and dished out 6 assists. Dakari Tucker had a nice shooting night by going 4-6 from 3-point land. The Utes did a great job rebounding the ball as they got 71 of 83 available rebounds in the game.
The vanilla non-conference schedule is finally over and now the real fun begins. Ute fans have been waiting for more quality opponents and they will final get their wish. The Oregon Ducks roll into town on January 2nd to get conference play started. The Ducks are ranked 13th in the country and have wins over Georgetown, Ole Miss, Illinois and BYU. The last time the Ducks paid the Utes a visit, they were ranked 19th in the country and had an opportunity to clinch the regular season conference championship. The Utes played a great game and got a 10-point win. That victory propelled to Utah to finish the season well and have a strong showing in the Pac-12 conference tournament in Las Vegas last year. Ute fans need to pack the Huntsman and give this team the support they deserve. Tip-off will be at 6:00 on Thursday, January 2nd as conference play gets started. BE THERE!
