Johnson Racking 'Em Up

Southern California offensive lineman Clayton Johnston has been picking up offers left and right

After a difficult recruiting cycle in California for 2014, Utah is trying to make inroads at some of the top programs, which has led them to offensive lineman prospect Clayton Johnston.

"My recruitment is going really good. I't been picking up a lot lately."

Johnston reports offers from San Diego State, Cal, Washington State, Arizona State, and now Utah with a couple more big name programs lurking.

"I'm also hearing from Michigan and Oklahoma a lot."

Johnston's offer from Utah came recently after developing a relationship with quarterback coach Aaron Roderick.

"I'm being recruited by Coach Roderick. We met a few months ago and say in contact a lot through social media."

That offer was a big one for the 6-6, 280 pounder.

"When I got the offer from Utah, I was very excited. It's a really good school. I've never been out there, but I have some friends that are committed to their school for other sports. They'll have coaches out here for a camp in June and I'll be there."

When making a decision, Johnston is putting a lot of emphasis on relationships he has built with the coaching staffs.

"I'm looking for a school with a coach I like. I want a coach that is just more than a football coach and someone that really cares about us off the field. Someone that shows a lot of respect and I have a lot of respect for."

Coming off of a visit to Arizona State, the Sun Devils are looking good to him, but he still plans on taking his time before making a decision.

"I just visited Arizona State, so they are fresh in my mind, but I really don't have a favorite. I just want to see how everything goes once I have all of my offers and will go from there."

With his elite size, Johnston should fit in well as a prototypical left tackle at the next level.

"I played right tackle last season, but will probably play left tackle this year. My strengths are my athletic ability and long arms. They allow me to keep up with quick defensive ends."
