Mcgruder Thinking Safety Pride?

Texas safety prospect Kenneth McGruder thinking long and hard about Utah

The Texas pipeline will always be an important part of Utah recruiting, and for 2015, they're targetting one of the top safety prospects in the state in Taylor High's Kenneth McGruder.

"My recruitment is going pretty good. I've had a lot of schools come by recently and have been picking up a lot of offers."

One of those schools is the University of Utah, who visited the three star safety's school recently.

"Coach Scalley came out and saw me a few weeks ago. He's a really cool guy and we talk all the time. He's a great coach and it's definitely put Utah on my radar. He's always talking about Safety Pride."

That relationship with Scalley and the interest in the Utes will bring McGruder to Salt Lake City this summer.

"I've got a lot of schools that I'm going to be visiting this summer. I've never been out to Utah, but I'm planning on a visit during the summer."

Utah's competition to land the 6-2, 205 pounder is steep with schools like LSU, Arkansas, and Cal already having offered, and others lurking.

"Florida has been talking to me a lot and could be close to offering. Same with Oklahoma State."

The summer visits by McGruder will help him narrow down his list with a decision to came later in the year.

"I don't have any favorites now and am open to all schools. I want to keep an open mind and explore all of my options," McGruder says. "I'll narrow down my schools after the spring and summer and probably make a decision sometimes in the fall."

He'll be putting a lot of stock in how comfortable he is on those visits before pulling the trigger.

"I want to play at a school where I'm comfortable at and I'm comfortable with the coaches. Playing time is also important and so are academics. Those are the main things I'll look for when I decide."
