Utes Defy The Odds Again

Utah knocks off Stanford in a double overtime slugfest

They did it again. Somehow, someway, they did it again as the Utes went into Palo Alto and took down the Cardinal in double OT 20-17. Behind the same defense, the same special teams, and some timely offensive plays Utah kept the dream season alive and grabbed win number 7.

Travis Wilson and Dave Christensen owned overtime. Christensen dialed up something that Stanford NEVER saw coming, Wilson got the blocking he needed, and delivered a perfect ball to a wide open Kaelin Clay. Stanford would answer and then post a field goal of their own, but Stanford had no clue what was coming after that. Wilson and company exploited that in working their way down the field until he found a wide open Kenneth Scott on a quick slant route that ended the game.

Nate Orchard and the defense made Stanford work for everything tonight. Orchard moved himself up draft boards and Kalani Sitake keeps moving his name up the list of desired coaching candidates for upcoming open ons. Both made some money tonight.

This team just keeps defying everything you'd anticipate. Stanford dominated that early drive and it looked early on like it wasn't going to be the Utes' day. And again, they showed the same grit and determination that we've come to see week in and week out from a team that is more than deserving of their soon to be top 20 national ranking. It's been fun. It's been exciting. It's given people heart attacks. It's even been heart-breaking, but it's turned that corner into a real Pac 12 program. It's Utah football.
