Game Matchups and Preview: Utah at Oregon St.

The Utes hit the road to take on the surprising Beavers

Guards
Taylor got back on track with a bunch of bombs against Cal and Delon Wright pretty much has the Pac 12 player of the year race wrapped up. These guys are good.

Gary Payton is back...in a younger form. The son of the NBA hall of famer has been a monster in his first season out of Salt Lake Community College with 13.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block per game. Those are Delon Wright numbers. This kid is fun to watch. Malcolm Duvivier is a versatile guard that averages 9.6 points, has the best name in the conference, and the best physique. I think he's been in the gym once or twice.
Advantage: Even

Forwards
Jordan Loveridge and Chris Reyes are averaging 15.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game combined this year. Nothing spectacular, but they're getting the job done in their roles.

Langston Morris-Walker is a swing-man that can play in the front court or back court. He averages 10.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. 6-10 Olaf Schaftenaar is a stretch 4 that averages 8.2 points per game and shoots 38.5% from deep.
Advantage: Even

Center
Jakob Poeltl had his best game as a Ute against Cal, and hopefully is rounding into form in time for a tournament run. The freshman boosted his stat-line to 9.2 points. 7.4 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game.

Daniel Gomis is a junior center from Senegla known much more for his defense than offense. He blocks 1.5 shots per game in limited minutes.
Advantage: Utah

Bench
We've spoken glowingly about the Utah bench time and time again. Outside of maybe Kentucky, is there a deeper group in the country?

Forwards Jarmal Reid is really the only bench player that makes an impact for Oregon State. He averages 8.3 points per game.
Advantage: Utah

Breakdown
There is Oregon State home and their is Oregon State road. In Pac 12 play, the Beavers are 6-0 in Corvallis (including a win over Arizona), but only 1-6 away from home. Unfortunately for Utah, this one is in the Evergreen State. Wright and Payton II will go at it, and this will be a defensive slu-gfest, but a late Brandon Taylor 3 will be the difference in a nail-biter.

The Pick
Utah 61 Oregon State 59
