Utah had a big unofficial visit weekend just a week before their Spring Game, and one of those visitors was Downey HS running back Daevon Vigilant. Vigilant is a small but violent running back, with breakaway speed and the strength to handle the hits that come with running between the tackles.
"I loved the visit. Everything about it was perfect. Utah feels like home to me and it's always been one of my top schools." Vigilant went on to say that the well noted family atmosphere at Utah was a big reason as to why he felt so comfortable. "Everybody that goes to Utah is like a big family, and there's just not many problem out there." Vigilant and the rest of the visitors got the VIP treatment while in Salt Lake City, but one aspect of the visit stood out the most to Vigilant. "We toured the whole campus, but the business school stood out the most to me out out of everything, as I plan on majoring in business."
Vigilant currently holds two offers to his name from Army and Navy, but he has a host of other schools reaching out and recruiting him, such as Utah, Nevada, Washington, Washington State, Cal and Boise State. At Utah, Vigilant has been staying in contact with one coach through out the entire recruiting process. "I've been talking with Coach Shah the most and our relationship has been great. They've been recruiting me since my freshman year. I was suppose to get an offer as a sophomore, but I had knee injury." Even though he doesn't currently hold an offer, Vigilant feels very strongly that one will be coming very soon. Because of that, Vigilant has two schools at the top his list. "It's just Utah and Army at the top right now."
Vigilant finished his junior year with 1,873 rushing yards, 193 receiving yards and 12 TD's while also racking up 50 tackles on the defensive side of the ball, but he has much higher goals as a senior. "My personal goal is to have 2,500 yards rushing, 500 yards receiving and 50+ tackles." If he hits those goals it's safe to say a lot more offers will start to flood in for the 5'10 running back, and he'll have plenty of time to consider all those offers, as he doesn't plan on making a commitment until his birthday, January 2nd.
