Projecting the Newcomers: Cory Butler

Where does incoming JC transfer Cory Butler project for 2015? We break it down

Cory Butler
Compton, CA (LA Harbor Junior College)
3 star WR
5-9, 175 lbs

The Recruitment
Bulter committed to the Utes in early 2014 after building a relationship with Pablo Cano. The commitment seemed solid before a trip to Kansas that resulted in a soft flip to the Jayhawks. Utah stayed on him though and an official visit in November flipped him back to the Utes.

The Skinny
An absolute burner, Butler is already one of the fastest players on the team. He played the wide receiver position as a freshman at his LA Harbor JC, but moved over to cornerback as a sophomore and made it look easy. He's not the biggest guy in the world and is still somewhere learning how to play the position, but should bet better and better with every single rep.

Projected 2015 Role
With the uncertainty surrounding Dominique Hatfield following his arrest, Butler's name is going to be called more than anticipated in fall camp and he'll have a great shot to work his way into the cornerback rotation for the upcoming season. Utah has a decent amount of depth at cornerback, but there are a lot of questions with Reggie Porter coming off of an injury, Hatfield's situation, and not much experience outside of nickelback Justin Thomas. He'll have to fight off guys like Brian Allen, but expect Butler to make a pretty smooth transition and find his way into the 2 deep for the Utes.
