3 Questions For Fall Camp: Special Teams

3 questions for the Utes on the offensive side of the ball heading into fall camp

1. Can Tom Hackett Get Any Better?
He won the Ray Guy award last season as the nation’s best punter. So what can Hackett do to improve in the fall? If he’s added more to his repertoire, we’ll get a look at it in camp.

2. Can Andy Phillips bounce back from his late season ‘swoon’? Phillips was one of the best kickers in the conference last season, if not the nation, but he struggled (by his standards) over the last few games. 90% of kickers in the country would take his 2014 season and run with it, but Automatic Andy holds himself to a higher standard. Starting out in the fall with consistency and some big kicks in camp will give him a lot of confidence heading into the season and could set him up for a shot at the Lou Groza Award.

3. Who Replaces Kaelin Clay In the Return Game? Utah had to do it back in 2013 when they replaced all American kick returner Reggie Dunn. Now they have to do the same in replacing Clay, who’s value went beyond the stats he put up in returning punts and kickoffs. The Utes can’t expect the same production out of whoever wins the job(s), but that doesn’t mean they can’t find an elite returner somewhere on the roster.
