There have been a lot of offers going out this past week from Utah, but one of the more interesting prospects that was offered is Clear Springs QB Will McBride out of Texas. Similar to Tyler Huntley, Utah’s QB commitment from last year’s class, Will is a talented QB that may be flying under the radar heading into his senior season.
Will currently holds 8 offers from schools like Boise St., Utah St., and Colorado St.. He’s also been hearing from schools like Tennessee, Memphis, and some of the Texas schools. Despite that early interest, Will decided to commit to SMU in April. “I just felt like it was a good place at the time. They have a lot of good stuff there, the coaches are great, and they’re getting new facilities there. You can tell they’re trying to turn things around there, and it just felt good to me.”
The offer from Utah though, has McBride wanting to reassess where he’s at in his recruitment. “But of course, I’ve gotten more interest and that’s why I’ve wanted to take a step back and kind of reassess where I’m at. I haven’t decommitted, but with me taking unofficial visits, I’m risking opening my scholarship if another QB wanted to commit there. But I’m ok with that because I want to see what’s out there for me, especially at Utah because that’s a big offer.”
Coach Roderick & Coach Scalley were the ones that recently visited McBride to get a better idea of who he is as a person and as a QB. They came away impressed and offered shortly after watching him throw.
So while the relationship with the coaches is still pretty new, the Utah offer has McBride making plans to take an unofficial visit to Utah sometime towards the end of June to get a better idea of what the football program really has to offer. “I’ve been to Salt Lake City on vacations before and it’s beautiful out there, and I’ve learned a lot of stuff about Utah, I know they were pretty good last year. So it’s just exciting to get an offer from a program like that, and I’m very excited to check out the program.”
With Will currently committed to SMU, while also wanting to check out some of these other schools that have offered, he knows what he’s looking for in the school he wants to attend. “Really just the best fit for me, and the best opportunity to succeed. Obviously, the bigger schools might be favored, but it could just come down to how I fit with the team and their scheme. I’m not really one of those guys that’s coming in looking to start, it’d be great, but I have no problem competing for the job, competition is always a great thing. So really, it’s how comfortable I am with the coaches and the environment, it’s just got to feel right.”

Will plans on deciding whether to reaffirm his commitment or change it to another program in July, then stick to that decision, And the only official visit he plans on taking is the school he’s committed to. So his visit to Utah is timely and could be a very beneficial to the Utes.
