It’s no secret that Utah is after some playmakers at the WR position. The California three-star WR, Bryan Thompson, is another the Utes have recently offered and are starting to recruit, and the Utes will have plenty of work to do.
“My recruitment has been going really well. Utah just offered, and it’s very exciting about how schools want you for being talented at something you love to do. I have 16 offers. USC, UCLA, Texas Tech, and Missouri haven’t offered but are also in contact with me. I’ve been hearing most from Colorado, Washington St, Oregon St, Boise St, and Arizona St.”
There are a lot of schools recruiting Thompson, and there are very good reasons why. “I’m 6’3 180 lbs and I’ve got good speed and explosiveness. I’ve got good game speed, leaping ability and my hands, I’ve got strong hands.” That combination is the type of skill set the Utes need at WR.
While Coach Holliday has been busy with WR recruiting, Coach Erickson has actually been the one that’s initiated Thompson’s recruitment for the Utes. “He [Coach Erickson] is the one recruiting me. He’s a little bit older than all the other coaches, but I like him, he’s a pretty cool guy. Even though it hasn’t been a lot yet, he’s been telling me that he loves my skill set and that I’d fit in their system.”
While the Utes are still pretty new in Thompson’s recruitment, the Utes left a strong impression from last season. “I actually watched a couple games last year, and was really impressed. I know they’re a fast paced offense and their QB was nice last year.”
Bryan has plenty of suitors and will try to visit as many schools as can during the summer to get a good idea of the schools recruiting him. “I plan on visiting Boise in a couple weeks, and then there’s a dead period, but after the dead period I will try to visit more schools. I want to take an unofficial visit to Utah, hopefully sometime soon.”
When it comes to a timeframe for Thompson’s decision, he really doesn’t have one. “I don’t have a timeframe of when I’m looking to commit. Basically whenever I feel it’s right, I’ll commit. I’ve talked to a lot of coaches and communication will be important, but it’ll be basically when it feels right.” As for what Thompson is looking for in a school, Utah sounds like it might be just what he’s looking for. “I’m looking for a strong brotherhood, and I think I’ll just feel it. I can’t put it into words, but I just want a feeling that I’m comfortable there. A coach that I can not only call my coach, but also a father figure or best friend.”
