The recruiting process can be quite the roller coaster for these high school athletes. Between the camps, 7 on 7’s, combines, school trips, coaches, offers, media, and fans it can be a pretty eventful process. For Jeffrey Manning Jr. it’s been just that. The defensive back out of Cathedral High School in Los Angeles has had quite the summer but he continues to enjoy the entire process!
Holding over 15 offers from schools, he’s received a good amount of interest, so much that Ucla got involved and eventually offered. Shortly after the offer from the Bruins, Jeffrey committed. Fast forward a month, Manning has now decommitted as he continues to garner more & more attention from a variety of schools. The Utes in particular, being one of the schools recruiting him the hardest.
“I’m pretty much open to everybody and I’m gonna listen to everybody to see what they have planned for me in the future. With Utah they see me as a true DB, which is where I can play corner, safety, and even nickel. And I like that, that’s where you can really show your skills.”
With him being a SoCal kid and a defensive back, of course, that means Coach Shah and Coach Scalley are both going to be involved in his recruitment. “Those two are hands down some of the coolest people I’ve met just as people. They really take their time to get to know you, not only as a football player but as a person.”
When it comes to making a decision he is no rush, Jeffrey really wants to take his time and find the right place to spend the next 4 or 5 years. He does know what he’s looking for though, “a place where not only I can feel comfortable but my family will as well. Somewhere the coaches have their best intentions on my future. And lastly a place where I can get on the field as true freshman.”
There are some schools that are standing out to him, those being SDSU, Oregon St, Boise St, WSU, and Utah. It’s not an official Top 5 list, as he’s open to everyone, but the Utes have left a solid impression with him. “Man, the effort that the coaches have shown me, that they really do have an interest in me, and the support they get from their fans, which is crazy!”
Jeffrey has his official visit to Utah set up for the week of the Holy War, which if you’re going to attend a game to watch the Utes perform, that’s a pretty good choice. He also has an official visit set up with Washington St for early December.

Utah looks good here, but with a decision a ways away, and Manning bound to earn more offers with his play this year, the Utes will have their work cut out for them, good thing they are making him a priority.
