Utes offer 2018 Cali QB

The Utes extended an offer to a 2018 QB out of Fresno. Here's what he thinks of the offer

Utah will be traveling to Berkeley, California hoping a win over the Golden Bears propels the Utes to a 5-0 record for the second consecutive season. While the teams will be battling on the field, they may also be battling for a fast rising 2018 quarterback that will be observing from the stands. Adrian Martinez, a product of Clovis West High School, is a top priority for Cal and will be on his second unofficial visit this season. Martinez also received an offer from Utah - his 7th - and is looking forward to the intriguing matchup.

Martinez is currently being recruited by Aaron Roderick and hopes to meet the co-offensive coordinator sometime during the Cal visit and further his relationship with the staff. He also has another interesting link with the Utah program. Martinez's best friends and teammates at Clovis West are two brothers by the name of DJ and Dusty Schramm. If the name rings a bell, it's because they are the sons of former Utah co-offensive coordinator Dave Schramm. Dave has been the offensive coordinator of the Fresno State Bulldogs since leaving Utah in 2012. Through this connection, Martinez said, "I have always heard really good things about Utah and especially their fan base."

The 3-star prospect already has great size as a junior at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds. Watching his film, he stands tall in the pocket and can sling it around. He also shows good mobility as well.

"I think I definitely have the ability to do either or, but I would honestly prefer to throw the ball around more," Martinez said. "I don't want to just be known as an athletic quarterback. I want to be seen as a guy who can stand in the pocket and make all the throws. However, at the next level, I'm going to do what it takes to win. If that means making plays with my legs, that's what I will do."

It is still early in his recruitment, but Martinez has been hearing from Cal and Oregon State often. Washington State and Colorado are not far behind, and now Utah has joined the Pac-12 party with an offer. Mizzou has offered as well. Since he's only a junior, Martinez doesn't currently have any official visits planned, but he claims he'd like to visit Oregon State and Utah unofficially soon.
