It is never easy to replace a star player like Warfield, but that is exactly what the Utes must do after this season when he heads to the NFL.

How many running backs the Utes sign is dependant on a couple of things. First off, how much will freshman running back Mike Liti improve between now and the end of the season? Will he continue to pick up the spread offense in a short amount of time? Since Liti has seen game action already one would think that Utah head coach Urban Meyer has confidence in him. Second, how many scholarships will the Utes have to offer? That is simply impossible to tell for sure, but roughly 18-19 is what I would guess at this point.

What about the other running backs on the roster like Soane Taliauli? At any rate, the Utes are thin at running back heading into the 2004 season.

This is just an early list and it will change as the season progresses. For now here is a short list of running backs the Utes will take a hard look at on the recruiting trail. More names will be put on the message over the course of the next few days.

Parrish Fisher - Richardson, TX

Beau Herbert - Box Elder, UT

Terrance King, St. John Bosco, UT

Brent Casteel - Antioch, CA

Clint Jones, Mesquite, TX

Jamario Thomas - Longview, TX

Terrell Jackson - Corona Centennial, CA

Joshua Barnett - Riverside North, CA

Sekei Faaeteete - San Leandro, CA

There are also several junior college prospects the Utes could sign. One name to remember is Brett Biggs - Fort Scott CC, KS.
